We recently connected with Angel Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Angel, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Finding myself through music was a transformative experience. Before I discovered the power of self expression through music, I felt adrift and uncertain. It was music that resonated a spark within me, a sense of purpose and belonging. By immersing myself in the creative process of writing, playing, and performing, I began to rediscover my authentic self. Each melody, each lyric, was a step towards greater self acceptance and confidence. As I honed my musical skills, I also developed a deeper understanding of who I am and what I value. Through music, I’ve learned to embrace my unique qualities and celebrate my individuality. It’s a constant reminder that I’m capable of achieving my goals and living a fulfilling life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Growing up in the Bay Area, I’ve always had a deep-rooted passion for music. My journey began at a young age, fueled by a fascination with instruments and a budding interest in DJing. It was my stepfather who introduced me to the electrifying world of EDM, particularly the high-energy genre of Hardstyle. From that moment, I was hooked.
Around the age of 8, I received my first DJ controller from my stepfather, a pivotal moment that ignited my desire to create and perform. As I experimented with various genres like Trap, Dubstep, and Riddim, I discovered my own unique sound and style. Despite the limitations of my early environment, I shared my music with the world through SoundCloud and YouTube livestreams.
While my enthusiasm for DJing waned during middle school, my love for music never faded. In eighth grade, I found a new outlet in producing beats for my rapper friends. This experience helped me develop my skills and eventually led me to pursue rapping myself. Although I ultimately decided that rapping wasn’t my calling, it solidified my commitment to music production.
High school marked a significant turning point in my career. With the support of friends and mentors, I began to produce electronic dance music tracks that resonated with audiences. My music gained traction on platforms like SoundCloud and Spotify, and I started to connect with like-minded artists. One such collaboration was with Jxra, a talented producer from Arizona, which resulted in a successful remix and the formation of our record label, “MXKE NOISE.”
“MXKE NOISE” is more than just a label; it’s a platform for emerging artists to showcase their creativity and authenticity. Through this venture, I’ve had the opportunity to play at various gigs, both small and large, and connect with a diverse community of music lovers. As a junior in high school, I’m excited to share my latest project, “CLOSEUREYES,” a freshman EP that represents years of hard work and passion.
My goal is to create music that resonates with listeners and inspires others to pursue their dreams. With the support of friends, mentors, and my own determination, I believe I can achieve great things in the world of electronic dance music.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Passion and Perseverance: My unwavering love for music has driven me through countless challenges. Even when I faced setbacks, my passion kept me going. Perseverance is essential in the music industry, where success often requires patience and dedication.
Curiosity and Open-Mindedness: I’ve always been curious about different genres and production techniques. This openness has allowed me to experiment and discover my unique sound. Being open to new ideas and collaborating with others can lead to unexpected opportunities and creative breakthroughs.
Networking and Collaboration: Building relationships with other artists and industry professionals has been invaluable. Collaborating with talented individuals has helped me grow as an artist and expand my network. Seek out opportunities to connect with like-minded people and build meaningful relationships.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My stepfather has been my most significant mentor and supporter throughout my musical journey. He introduced me to electronic dance music, provided me with my first DJ equipment, and encouraged me to pursue my passion. His guidance and belief in my abilities have been invaluable.
Additionally, the friends and collaborators I’ve met along the way have played a crucial role in my development. They’ve offered advice, provided feedback, and supported me during challenging times.
