Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Bryant. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angela , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my Grandfather Ralph Collins. He raised my siblings and I, we grew up watching him work hard to care of us even after the passing of our Grandmother. He own his own logging truck, so he’d get contracts to clear land of the trees and would sell the trees for a profit. That’s how he made money to support us.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist. I have my own business Slay With Michelle A LLC. I also work at Nuvani Institute in Austin, Tx as a cosmetology instructor. I feel most excited about making my clients reach their beauty goals. I’m also very excited and proud to see the students graduating and going on to create their career in the beauty industry! It’s an amazing feeling to my clients feel beautiful and seeing the students excelling in their careers knowing that I had a in helping them reach their goals !
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Always being teachable, having a blend of technical skills such as hair cutting, styling, makeup, nail care, skincare. Soft skills, communication, customer service, time management and creativity. Keeping up with the trends, because the trends always changing. Being a cosmetology instructor creativity is a for front when it comes to teaching students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. An eye for detail, time management, business skills, physical stamina adaptability, and problem solving.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I think go all in on our strengths and invest in areas as strong in, because if you don’t you aren’t able to prosper or become stronger in those areas you’re weak in. For example communication, you don’t have good communication you can lose clients. You can gain a bad reputation and it can be spread around the beauty industries causing you not have a good clientele. In the area of being an instructor you aren’t getting necessary training to students that’s detrimental. Miscommunication can cause you to damage a person’s hair or skin.
