We recently connected with Angela Elliott and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Personally it’s 2 ways. You’re able to either look to your peers to see their work and re-work it with your touch or shit out the world and let your mind create a vision naturally. I’ll be honest and say at this time in my life the later seems very close to impossible as I’m sure it is for a lot of people but an artist can’t just not create. It’s too close to not breathing.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a licensed cosmetologist currently practicing hair, nails and make up. One of the most exciting things about my field is being apart of my clients big day. Whether it’s birthdays, weddings, graduations etc. as well as making women feel good about themselves! When you look good, you feel good, you do good.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important skills/qualities personally are creativity, the ability to change and adapt and willingness to start. Starting is the easy part it’s a must you stay consistent! Stay consistent through the good, the bad, the ugly and the unknown. You will always be glad you did.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Recently I read the book “Don’t Look Back” and it’s packed with so many gems for a person feeling stuck or unsure about the future. One quote I truly love from it is “If we don’t want to be stuck where we are, then we have to take the risk to go again to get to where God wants us to be.” That one quote is helpful for so many of life’s challenges.
