Meet Angela Enwezor

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angela Enwezor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angela below.

Angela, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Art has always been a vital part of my life, serving as a means of self-expression, exploration, and connection. At Prisca’s Art, I create pieces that evoke emotion and inspire others to see the world through a different lens. My work is deeply rooted in my experiences, influences, and the beauty I find around me.

Creativity is a living, breathing entity that requires care and nurturing. To keep my creativity alive, I nurture it through various practices:
1. Continuous Learning: You never stop learning. I enhance my skills by exploring new techniques and styles through workshops and constant experimentation.
2. Nature and Travel: coming from a rich and wealthy culture i find inspiration in different landscapes and other cultures, which refreshes my creative perspective.
3. Artistic Community: Engaging with fellow artists /entrepreneurs motivates me and sparks new ideas through collaboration and discussion.
4. Mindfulness and Reflection: Reflecting on my creative journey through meditation and Zumba dance exercise helps me reconnect with my purpose and tap into my creativity.
5. Setting Goals: I establish personal projects and challenges that encourage growth and maintain excitement in my work.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that have significantly impacted my path as a designer and entrepreneur are resilience, creativity, and the importance of community.
1. Resilience: The ability to bounce back from challenges and setbacks has been crucial. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but staying committed to my vision helped me navigate through difficulties. My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Every setback can teach invaluable lessons.
2. Creativity: Nurturing my creative instincts has allowed me to create unique pieces that resonate with my audience. I encourage budding designers to continually seek inspiration from diverse sources—whether it’s nature, travel, or other cultures—in order to enrich their creative expression.
3. Community: Building relationships with fellow creatives and mentors has been instrumental. Surrounding myself with supportive individuals has provided motivation and sparked new ideas. For those just starting out, I recommend actively engaging with your community, sharing ideas, and seeking feedback. Collaboration often leads to inspired and innovative outcomes.

As I have come to learn and understand that, “People will inspire you not to be like them.” And this serves as a reminder to draw inspiration from others while forging your unique path. Embrace what sets you apart, and use it to fuel your journey in the creative world.
