We recently connected with Angela Fuller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome hit hard when I returned to gymnastics and took on the American Ninja Warrior course in my 40s. As the oldest competitive gymnast in Colorado and the oldest woman from my state to compete on ANW, I often wondered if I truly belonged.
But I’ve learned that imposter syndrome isn’t a sign you’re unqualified, it’s a sign you’re stepping into something that matters. I stopped striving to prove myself and started trusting the story God is telling through my life.
Today, I choose purpose over podium. I don’t compete to be the best, I compete to show what’s possible when you trust God, do the work, and ignore the lies that say you don’t belong.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a competitive adult gymnast, American Ninja Warrior, fitness instructor, speaker, and mom of two boys. After a devastating back injury, years of chronic pain, and postpartum depression, I believed my best days were behind me. But everything changed when I chose faith over fear, leading to physical and spiritual restoration and unlocking a comeback I never thought possible.
At 44, I just made gymnastics history as the oldest athlete ever to complete the NAIGC National Omnithon, which includes all 14 events across women’s, men’s, trampoline, and tumbling. I also was the oldest female from Colorado to compete on American Ninja Warrior. I’ve proven it’s never too late to rewrite your story.
I empower women, especially moms, who feel stuck in daily life, reminding them they were made for more. Through faith, fitness, and purpose, I help them rediscover their dreams and step confidently into what is next. You do not have to watch life pass by or only cheer on your children. You can pursue your calling right alongside them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful traits in my journey have been resilience, faith, and a willingness to start small.
Resilience was the force that helped me rise after injury, pain, and countless setbacks. It taught me that true strength is built not when things are easy but in the journey of the comeback. My advice to anyone facing challenges is simple. Keep showing up. Every small effort adds up and persistence creates power.
Faith gave me the courage to try again even when I felt unqualified or unsure of the outcome. It reminded me to trust God and the process even when progress is slow or the path feels uncertain. Sometimes the hardest steps lead to the most rewarding destinations.
Starting small was the key to my transformation. Everything meaningful began with simple, consistent actions. No grand leaps just steady progress. Waiting for the perfect moment only delays the journey. So do not hesitate or doubt yourself. Just begin where you are with what you have and watch your strength grow.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
This year, I’ve embraced the quiet power of simply showing up, imperfect, unsure, but willing. I’ve learned that courage isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s just the decision to try again, even when no one is watching. Making gymnastics history at 44 wasn’t about proving anything to the world. It was about honoring the girl inside me who never gave up, the woman I’ve become through pain, perseverance, and faith.
It was about making myself proud. It was about becoming the example I once needed, so that other women can see themselves in my story and know that they’re not too old, too late, or too far gone to begin again.
This mission is so much bigger than me. It’s about rewriting the narrative for women everywhere who have put their dreams on hold. It’s about showing what’s possible when you choose faith over fear, and purpose over perfection. Because the world needs more women who stop waiting for the “right time” and start living fully right now.
