We were lucky to catch up with Angela Gonzalez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Angela with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic derives from my passion. Without passion there is no determination, without determination, there is no consistency, and without consistency, there is no work ethic. Learning that a good work ethic comes from the difficult moments in which you’re able to provide the best of yourself no matter how stressful it can get.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I believe I am a super artist. As in many superhero stories, they transform when needed in the area of their specialty. Many know me as AGONZA, although locals know me as Angie. Throughout my entire career as Angie, I’ve worked as a community social worker in the mental health and education system through Rhode Island and Massachusettes. However, my passion for the arts became stronger after graduating from the University of Rhode Island. I now transform into AGONZA when art is needed. Now AGONZA has gone international as a muralist and public art leader to be a positive representation of her culture and community. I proudly can say as AGONZA I’ve been able to be the muralist to complete the most murals in Rhode Island and receive multiple awards from cities across the state. As AGONZA in 2024 i know will be facilitating the first Mural on Wheels Battle at PVD Fest.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As an Artist and resident of Rhode Island, having the ability to combine what I learn to brand myself has been a skill that is underestimated. Providing hope to the community with talent is a skill many do not learn in the education system. Showing determination, consistency, passion, and compassion for others are skills I believe are the most important when trying to rise in whatever you are setting yourself to accomplish.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m most overwhelmed I take a few minutes to analyze my circumstances by organizing what I’m in control of and what is a priority. I first make a list of what I am and am not in control of. I then create due dates for each task and a work schedule of when to complete it so that I can execute it in a timely matter.
