Meet Angela Keaton

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Keaton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Angela, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Honestly, it’s all about knowing people. Listen and learn who and where people are, and you either meet them there or leave them there; all while being my wonderfully wonderful self. Living in my truth and being fearless.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

By day, I work as a Community Manager at a Senior Apartment building. By night, I’m plotting to take over the world—with comedy, one stage at a time. The most exciting thing about doing comedy is giving everyone pieces of you that you’ve somehow turned into laughter from tears. It’s like telling your story, when done genuinely. Other people laughing at your pain, lets you know that you weren’t crazy to make it funny in the first place.

I recently performed at the Red Light District during Pridefest MKE, and hosted for Chastity Washington at Improv in Brookfield, WI. I host an open mic at Canni Infusion Bar every third Wednesday of each month in Milwaukee, WI, and my next show is on June 21st at Hops Haven in Sheboygan, with headliner “The Queeny Bitch”.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. I am a networking goddess: I have excellent interpersonal skills with a talent for initiating and growing strategic connections

2. I read people very well: I have an unusually heightened sense of emotional intelligence, recognizing unspoken issues or underlying character traits that may impact collaboration.

3. Relatability: I’m able to connect with people from all walks of life by communicating with authenticity and empathy

My advice would be to fearlessly be yourself and to always lead with authenticity.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Always! I want creative and positive people around me with the same end goal; development and greatness! I want to work with people great at marketing, and producing! Let’s book some shows, let’s plan tours! Let’s get together and plot world domination! I’ll even take on a sponsor or two, or three! Let’s go!
