Meet Angela Kent

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Kent . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Angela , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity was instilled in me at an early age through my mother and grandmother/grandfather. They were truly the most giving, generous, kind, engaged people I have known.

In particular my grandmother and who lived until she was 97 did not stop opening her home and her heart to numerous causes dedicated to politics, the arts, and world issues. They would open their home in Brentwood to many causes.
“Betty is the daughter of Warner Bros. Co-founder Harry Warner, is an artist and philanthropist. With her husband, Stanley Sheinbaum, who many regard the “Godfather” of West side progressives, Betty hosted dozens of political events a year at their home, where national, international, and local political activists announce their new initiatives and projects. The Activist Video Archive was launched in their living room in May of 2010.” (This is a great description of my grandparents taken from the Activist Video Archive)

From an early age I would spend time in their home and attended numerous events and political fundraisers. Which always had many people that would be doing the same kind of work. Those experiences have truly inspired me to want to help others and make a difference in the world in some way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Professionally I have been a film and television production accountant for the past 22 years.

I am also a Photographer her on the side.

I have had the opportunity to work on many large-scale film and television projects such as The Transformers, Bullet Train, The Mandalorian, to name a few.

I have truly enjoyed being a part of such incredible projects and having the opportunity and ability to be a part of a process which enables paying crew members and vendors.

I am currently working with a team to do a documentary on AI and artificial intelligence, which hopes to spread light on the potential that AI has in both good and bad ways, (I am currently having to pivot with the WGA and SAG strikes going on)

This position has allowed me to also work on my passion for photography. Being able to express myself through my photography has been such a valuable way for me to share what I see in the world and share with others.

I have been in numerous group and solo shows in Santa Monica, Anaheim, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A few years ago, I also started a blog called Sustainable Style Solutions where I share my love for photography and sustainability in fashion. I have also with a company called Swap Society, https://www.swapsociety.co/ (shooting for their website) Secondhand clothing, swapping, and trying to reduce waste is a huge passion and have been helping to try and spread the word for secondhand shopping, and swapping for the past 15 years.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Knowing what you want and not being afraid to reach out and connect with people. I have always been good at reaching out and connecting with people and connecting others together. I have put myself out there on many occasions and the results have always been either a job, or a project that I have wanted to be a part of or work on.

I love to connect people to others and many times this had led to helping others get jobs as well.

Persistence I have found is also key. I have a tendency to be persistent when I am passionate about something and generally this has been a very helpful quality which has been successful in obtaining the results I am trying to achieve.

Having the confidence to show up and share your passions, wants, and desires to do what you want to do is key to obtaining what you want to create in your life and how you want your life to look like

I think my grandparents truly taught me what living a passionate, creative, fulfilling life looks like until their 90’s, and having that drive well into their 90’s has truly rubbed off on me.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The current challenge I am facing along with many others in my industry is the WGA and SAG strike which has been going on for over 100 days.

Learning to adapt, pivot, and tap into my creativity at this time has been a necessity as well as a much-needed respite.

This time has also been a valuable and diversion from work to work on myself, spend more time with my family and has allowed me to take risks and reach out to people in other ways.

Since the strike I have had the opportunity to be in two photography shows and have just started collaborating with a Producer on a documentary on the topic of AI (which is both fascinating, timely, and important topic to shed a light on, especially with how it effects current events such as in the film industry, in schools, in politics, and much more.)

In the face of uncertainty and challenges I am practicing my resilience, drive, passions and trying to set a good example for my 14-year-old daughter, when life does not go on as planned with your profession, being resilient and creative can help you achieve your goals and dreams.
