Meet Angela Propes

We were lucky to catch up with Angela Propes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My dad was a country boy from the deep south of Alabama, and even though people didn’t often break free from the small town he grew up in, he had a drive to become everything he could be. He joined the Air Force at 17, travelled the world, married my mom, had six kids, and while all of that was going on he went to night school for over 10 years while stationed at various bases and succeeded in getting his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

My mom and dad were married over 70 years and through all of those years I was keenly aware of the example he set when it came to work. He was the very definition of “suit up, show up”.

Sadly, both he and my mom passed away a couple of years ago but the legacy that he created to succeed against all odds is what drives me today in pursuing my passion of owning and running my own business.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I took one of those personality aptitude tests one time and scored 50% in the artistic category, and 50% in the business category, and that perfectly matches everything I love about running a business. All of it, from research and development of my skincare products, to designing my website, and even bookkeeping; running a business checks off all the boxes for me.

I’ve recently developed a new line of face oils that I’m particularly excited about. After having done extensive research to find ingredients that are the most luxurious, as well as ethically-sourced, I am SO EXCITED to have launched my new line of skincare products that have even more amazing skin benefits!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m a problem solver. An motto I have lived by is that there is no shame in having a problem, but it’s a shame if it’s not addressed. While it’s easy to get discouraged when faced with challenges, you have to pick yourself back up again and keep moving forward.

I’m also an organizing junkie. I love everything to do with organizing, and that helps a lot when it comes to running a business, running a household, or anything that requires order. Trying to function in chaos is an exercise in frustration and futility.

As fun as it is to pursue a passion, knowing when to take breaks is also an important skill. No matter how much we might enjoy a pursuit or activity, burnout is still a possibility, and a probability if you don’t give yourself time to unwind, decompress, and rest your body and mind.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
It might sound clichéd, but the Bible is the book that has played the most important role in my development not only as a person, but also as a business owner. I know that nowadays the business slogan “The customer is always right” is a bit controversial, but providing top-notch customer service is extremely important to me, so I take that slogan very seriously, and have even expanded on it with “The customer is always right, and if they’re not right, I’ll do whatever I can to make them right”. That to me is a type of grace, which is a big theme of the Bible.
