Meet Angela Stubbs

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Stubbs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Angela , thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I think optimism is a mindset. I approach all things in my life from the POV that all things are possible. Some might call that being optimistic, but it’s a choice. At a young age, I was forced to deal with a lot of health challenges and at the time, they felt overwhelming. Over the years, I’ve learned for the most part, we determine the outcome of things based on our expectations. If we expect things to turn our poorly, they often do. I know for some readers that may seem a bit woo-woo but I firmly believe that you get what you think about. And assuming things won’t turn out the way we like, is just sloppy thinking. Optimism can help shape the outcome of any worthwhile endeavor. That said, optimism alone cannot do all the heavy lifting in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Pitch Perfect Media was born out of my desire to help people who are creative entrepreneurs or trailblazers in their field who seek media exposure to help build awareness and credibility in their businesses. Helping others tell their story is something I LOVE. This business was created to help leaders get loud about their successes, tell their stories, and watch their brands/businesses grow! I get so much satisfaction from knowing I’ve helped someone share their talents and planning how we can showcase those gifts is the best part.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being a good listener. (Anyone who knows me is probably cracking up right now because I talk a LOT. However, over time I’ve come to be a really good listener.) Being patient is also on the list. I have a very grounded personality and can take things in stride. I know how to pick my battles. Last, I’d say being able to laugh at yourself is a big deal. Most of us are way too serious about most things. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time to be serious and focused, but I love to laugh. I always say if someone can make you laugh, that’s 50% of the win! Being genuine is a big part of being a good listener. Having a real curiousity about your clients is important. Asking questions but realy caring about the answer matters! Patience can feel challenging if you’re already impatient with yourself. Offering grace and compassion makes patience an easier thing to come by. Laughing—-well, surround yourself with people who have a sense of humor as much as possible. It doesn’t mean you won’t have tough times, but you will have someone around you who can laugh with you when things get tough. It helps! These 3 things will help you be the best version of you and I think that’s all most of us want out of one another at the end of the day.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Breathing helps. Seriously, I think acknowledging the overwhelm is key. Most of the time I think autopilot kicks in and I try to power through things by just submerging myself in work, but here’s a secret…that never works. I have to make a conscious effort to sit with how it feels to be overwhelmed. As someone who is a meditation facilitator, you’d think would come easier, but it takes a lot of presence to know what’s what. I usually address the overwhelm in a few ways: Meditation, massage, or talking to people close to me. I hate how it feels when anxiety shows up in my body, so I try to attend to it as soon as I can because the alternative isn’t an option.
