Meet Angela Vasser

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Vasser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Being the only one in the room to look like me can definitely be a challenge but it has also allowed me to become the confidant successful entrepreneur that I am today. Being the spouse of a husband who’s career may take me to any location in or out of the country has also prepared my readiness and possibilities of being the only one in the room to look like me. This only feeds my determination to succeed and at the same time, set the example and instill these same values and work ethics in my children.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For 26 years my focus has been maintaining my clients natural hair health along with demonstrating flawless free flowing looks on African American women. That is my specialty as well as precision cutting. I enjoy educating my clients on how to maintain and preserve the integrity of their hair and scalp when they are away from the salon. I practice professionalism while making each and every person feel comfortable no matter what their hair concern may be or the current condition. My goal is for my clients to leave my chair feeling beautiful and confident each and every time!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would have to say willingness to learn and always be a student(although a professional) along with adapting to change and not being afraid to challenge myself even in times of doubt. I also believe in doing what I’m passionate about and love to do. The hair industry has so many revenues and some people will make you feel you have to do everything, and for me that didn’t make sense. Doctors specialize, engineers and every other profession.
One of my biggest qualities is being able to connect and effectively communicate with people.

To anyone early in this journey I would say do what you love, think out of the box sometimes because this is an ever changing industry learn all you can from all the amazing talent around you and have fun. The hair industry is astounding!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is one who has an open mind, is kind, can communicate and trust that I have their best hair health in mind. A client that is honest in times of consultation and follows healthy hair habits when away from the salon. One of the biggest characteristics that makes someone an ideal client for me is one who is consistent because that’s when we will get the Best hair results. Lucky for me I already have some of these “ideal clients”.
