We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelica Montaño. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelica below.
Hi Angelica , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self- discipline comes in my DNA I assume (Montano giggles). I think what society calls stubbornness in a kid, with the proper guidance, it can flourish into self- discipline. Ever since I was a kid I was always called stubborn and that I would not stop until I accomplished what I wanted. As I grew, my teachers in school and in my voice lessons helped me develop a deeper and more successful way to redefine this virtue of self- discipline.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Angelica’s musical journey has been marked by exceptional performances at prestigious festivals, including those organized by the City of Los Angeles, City of Montebello, West Covina Festival, and more. She has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Mariachi Sol De Mexico, Arturo Vargas, and graced as a special guest for Mariachi Divas.
Currently immersed in the creation of her upcoming album set to be released in early 2024, Angelica has already given the audience a taste of her brilliance with the release of a captivating single, “Regresa,” accompanied by a visually stunning music video.
What sets Angelica apart is her unique ability to infuse a sophisticated and modern twist into her music while staying deeply connected to her Mexican roots. This distinctive blend has garnered her recognition in the Latin Grammys, with considerations in 2020 and 2022 in two prominent categories: Best Song of the Year and Best Regional Mexican.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three skills that were and continue to be impactful in my journey are: self- discipline, consistency and to be your biggest cheerleader. The advice I would give to folks who are early in their journey is to practice A LOT, never stop cultivating your mind with creativity and to always work on your weaknesses with love and patience along with continuing to cultivate your strengths.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
One challenge I continuously face as a creative mind is that I have to constantly remind myself that I am a tad different from the rest of society. When creatives come together You stop feeling like a fish out of water; the world just makes sense and it is fun and we understand, respect and admire each others thoughts, ideas, jokes, and creativity. There is no such thing as an idea that is weird. versus when we are outside of our creative environment and fellow artists, the world can be harsh and you are constantly being bombarded with society wanting you to fit a certain model, speak, think, sing, create a certain way. As a creative mind it is essential to have a strong support system that encourages you to continue being your artistic self and to help remind you that not fitting into the norm is totally okay because if we fit into the society mold then creativity. would be non existent.
