Meet Angelica Reyes

We recently connected with Angelica Reyes and have shared our conversation below.

Angelica , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I would say life in general. The world is going to keep spinning no matter what life throws at us. We need to appreciate what we have and be grateful of what’s provided to us. Sunlight, water, food, family, pets, children, it surrounds us in our every day lives. I used to be someone who wanted to be in control over everything. I thought if I stayed in something I didn’t like, eventually, I’d adapt to like it. I was 100% wrong. If anything, I slowly but surely was disrespecting myself and only focusing on outcomes that were just not coming true. I didn’t look at the other side, where the grass was greener. I didn’t look at the side where I have goals, desires, things I want to accomplish in life. Therefore, I looked and just kept looking forward.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a DJ, I primarily mix house music with blends of Brazilian, Jersey, and Latin. I remember being in the sixth grade and watching a recap video of the festival, Tomorrowland. One of, if not the most legendary EDM festivals. I remember seeing how happy all the attendees were, the bright colors, the music, everyone feeling free to express themselves. The music really interested me. I began listening to Hardwell, Showtek, Alesso, all the big room well-known DJs. I got older and attended raves, shows, festivals, etc. The pure happiness it gave me was euphoric. Fast forward to now, I am a DJ. It really warms my soul creating an atmosphere where people can enjoy themselves and let go. I’ve dj’d in lively areas such as Jersey City and Newark. I also have dj’d in Brooklyn, NYC. About two weeks, I completed a live-streamed set for a radio show based out of Brooklyn. A couple days ago, I dj’d at an arcade bar in Brooklyn as well. I never expected to get these opportunities, I never even expected for people to like my sounds/mixes. It goes to show that believing in myself does a lot more than I thought.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say consistency, determination, and passion. All three really can determine your success, you really need to put your energy into it. As long as you have one, the other two will follow. If you’re consistent, the passion shows through determination to learn/succeed. Learn to tune out the noise and learn from your mistakes, not soak in them.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Yes, I’m having difficult developing my brand. I love djing, I love music but I want to develop a logo/brand that shows it’s me. I do have some ideas, it’s just a matter of really getting to know myself. Not just as someone who djs, but who I truly am and how to express that.
