We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelika Koch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelika below.
Hi Angelika , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My mother is a migrant from Germany and my father is a very driven person. I grew up in an environment where we were taught to work hard and always do the job right the first time. I was taught at a very young age that cutting corners and taking the easy way out to do things was not the the most efficient path to take. I was taught when you cut corners, it makes things twice as hard because then you have to go back and do it again.
My mother is a very driven woman. While she was taking care of my sisters and I, she was also going to school, getting her doctorate in psychology. She was a strong woman who was able to balance everything, no matter how difficult it got.
My father was a search and rescue pilot in the US Coast guard. He retired when I was ten and started a non profit. I remember watching him work from 5 in the morning until midnight, several nights a week.
As I got older, I was influenced by my parents work ethic. They taught me that if I wanted something bad enough, I needed to do whatever work it took to get there.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My primary focus on what I do is helping others get through breakups as well as work through relationship struggles. As a breakup and relationship coach, I create videos my platforms helping those who follow me better understand themselves, their situations, and possible solutions to move forward. I also take 1-1 private clients as a Coach, helping to coach them in their life. What I find the most special in my job is seeing the impact that my work has in other people’s lives. I love getting DM’s from people telling me how the content I have created has helped them to move forward in their life.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three qualities that were most impactful for my journey was obstinance, an eagerness to grow and learn, and compassion towards self and others. My obstinance helped me to push through the hard times. I refused to give up, no matter how difficult things became. I was just too stubborn and in my heart, I knew it was the path I needed to take. My eagerness to grow and learn helped me to gather as much knowledge as I could on a variety of topics. I wanted to become the best version of myself– a person I could be proud of becoming. This helped me not only grow as a person but also helped me to become a better coach. My compassion towards self and others helped me to become a driving force towards my goals and dreams. I wanted to become the person I needed so long ago as well as become that person for others. I wanted to understand people at the deepest level that I possibly could and help others to know through my social media that they are not alone. I wanted to spread a message of love and hope, which took a lot of compassion to do so.
If you are early on your journey, the best suggestion I have is to not look at where you need to be, but instead start taking baby steps towards getting there. Sometimes when we look at where we want to be and compare it to where we are at, it can become overwhelming. This is why it’s important to just take small steps towards it and navigate through those small steps. You will eventually get to where you are wanting to be. Those small steps add up faster than you realize.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I am feeling overwhelmed it normally means that I have either put too much on my plate or I am looking at too much all at once. I have found the most useful strategy to overcome this is to break whatever I need to do into smaller parts and only put my energy on those parts, one at a time. When you break things down into smaller parts, it can help you to move forward faster and more efficiently.
