We recently connected with Angelo Acevedo and have shared our conversation below.
Angelo , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by always trying something new. Whether it’s learning something unexpected or watching a film that sparks an idea, I love taking inspiration and folding it into my own work. I’m constantly tweaking my formula it keeps things exciting and keeps me motivated. Pushing myself to try creative things I never thought I’d do has been one of the best parts of the journey

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve always been someone who loves learning new things, but I tend to lose interest once I figure them out. Filmmaking is different. it’s constantly changing. Every shoot is unique, every edit brings a new challenge, and I’m always learning something new. That keeps me motivated.
Growing up, I was really shy but always loved movies. Over the years, I became more outgoing, worked all kinds of jobs, and after the pandemic I decided to take a real chance on myself. That led me to creating multiple YouTube channels, exploring different niches, and building an audience from scratch.
Lowriders have always been a part of my life it’s in my family and my culture. I love documenting the cars, the people, and the energy of the events. I shoot everything on the fly. run and gun style which has helped me grow as a documentary style filmmaker. There’s no script, just real moments and real people.
I recently launched my own website to showcase the work I’ve done so far. It’s not perfect, but it’s all mine. Almost everything equipment, travel, event coverage has come out of my own pocket. But I’m proud of it. It’s a creative journey I love, and hopefully it leads somewhere bigger down the road

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Consistency.
Showing up regularly, even when no one’s watching, is what sets you apart. When you’re just starting out, being consistent builds trust, shows you’re serious, and keeps you improving with every post or project.
2. Hunger and mindset.
You’ve got to really want it. There will be videos that flop, negative comments, or people who don’t get what you’re doing. But if you’re passionate and keep pushing through all that, you’ll grow. The key is to stay focused on your “why.”
3. Learning by doing.
I made a lot of mistakes on other channels in different niches, but that trial and error taught me a lot. By the time I focused on this one, I already had a sense of what worked. That hands-on experience saved me time and gave me direction.
Advice?
Don’t overthink. Start with what you have. Be consistent, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to make “bad” content at first. it’s the only way you get better. Every skill you pick up along the way adds to your creative toolbox.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest growth this past year came from realizing that gear isn’t everything.
I invested in a high end camera, thinking it would take my storytelling to the next level. While it definitely improved the image quality, it didn’t automatically make my stories better. That was a big eye opener.
What really helped me grow was shifting my focus to the fundamentals. like better composition, smoother camera work, more intentional color grading, and improving my audio. I also started studying writing and story structure more seriously, which has helped me create stronger narratives.
So, the biggest growth has been learning that it’s not about having the most expensive gear. it’s about mastering the craft.
