Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angely Callejas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angely, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
For me, optimism isn’t just a mindset, it’s become a daily habit. Each day, I try to focus on the good in my life, to appreciate how far I’ve come, and to stay hopeful about where I’m going. I carry my past with gratitude, live in my present, and dream about the future. I know my life today is so much better than it used to be, and that gives me strength.
My personal mantra is: Everything happens for a reason and if it doesn’t happen, that’s for a reason too. On my hard days, I hold on to that truth. I trust in God and in His timing. He knows my heart, my dreams, and my path even when I don’t see the full picture yet.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a makeup artist with a passion for both beauty and special effects—from flawless glam looks to realistic, gory creations. My journey began when I was little, playing with my mom’s makeup and discovering the magic it held. Over time, it became more than just a fascination it became a way to express myself.
In 2018, I began my professional training at the Academia Francesa de Belleza in Bogotá, where I first explored SFX. After moving to Florida in 2019, I pushed through the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language while continuing to refine my skills.
In 2022 in roll at VAMP, an experience that truly transformed my career. Since then, I’ve worked in theater, short films, photo shoots, TV commercials, and theme parks—including productions at the Dr. Phillips Center and SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream.
This journey has been a dream come true and it’s only just beginning.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey are adaptability, perseverance, and communication.
Moving to a new country was a major challenge especially adjusting to a new language. I had spent 19 years communicating comfortably in my country, so suddenly facing a language barrier in both personal and professional settings was tough. But I kept learning and adapting because I knew communication is essential in every aspect.
My advice to anyone starting out is: embrace the challenges, stay consistent, and keep learning. Growth doesn’t happen all at once, but with patience and effort, you’ll get where you want to be.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My family has been the biggest support in my journey—especially my mom she has been a key person because she’s always supporting me in everything. She brought the world of makeup into my life, and she’s the one who’s taught me how to live it, my stepfather, who believed in my passion and helped me attend to VAMP. My brother and nephew motivate me every day.
At VAMP, I learned from Brian, Ann, and Osiris—three artists I deeply respect. I’m also thankful for my best friend and the amazing friends I’ve made in this industry who continue to support and inspire me.
