We were lucky to catch up with Angie Berrett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose as I healed from the deep trauma that had shaped my life. As a child, I was sexually abused by family friends—without my parents ever knowing. The abuse was so significant, I buried it completely. I had always felt this deep “black hole of pain” inside me, but I could never understand where it came from.
It wasn’t until about 10 years ago, when someone I trusted deeply betrayed me, that my buried memories came flooding back. Then, I hit rock bottom.
As I was crawling my way back and on my healing journey, 2 things happened that changed everything. I was training to become a Trauma-Informed Yoga instructor, where I discovered the incredible power of play and movement to help our nervous system feel safe and grounded. Meanwhile in therapy, my therapist introduced me to a protocol designed for people who experienced childhood trauma without ever feeling safe.
That’s when I learned something that blew my mind: as mammals, we are born with 7 natural circuits in our brains, and one of those is PLAY.
So I started to use play and movement in my healing journey—and it worked! Healing became lighter, less painful, and even fun.
I was so excited, I shared what I was doing with friends who hadn’t been through trauma like I had, and guess what? It worked for them too! That’s when I knew this had to be bigger than just me. It turned into a movement—one where I now help people reconnect with their bodies, releasing the weight of limiting negative beliefs, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma, while rediscovering joy and peace.
Healing doesn’t have to be hard. It can be fun, playful, and full of life. And I’m here to show people how
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m focused on helping people learn all about Trauma-Informed Intuitive Movement for healing and joy.
Did you know your body sends over 11 million bits of sensory information to your brain every second, but your brain can only process about 50 bits consciously. That means you’re only aware of a tiny fraction of what your body is telling you!
Trauma-Informed Intuitive Movement helps you tune in to those hidden messages. It reconnects you with your body’s experiences instead of disconnecting from them, helping you move with more awareness.
This practice encourages curiosity, joy, creativity, and playfulness, allowing you to release what you “should” be doing and feel into what your body truly needs. It’s about moving from the inside out and having fun while doing it!
The most effective way I help people do this is with my M.O.V.E (Mindful Observation through Visualized Embodiment) Coaching Program! This is a specially curated trauma-informed intuitive movement program designed with YOU in mind. Imagine a space where each movement, each breath, intertwines with imagination, play, creativity, purpose and intention. Dive deep into a realm where your mind and body don’t just communicate—they flow in harmony.
Imagine: Deep well-being, self-love, joy, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three most impactful things on my healing journey were learning to trust myself, realizing that healing doesn’t have to be heavy, and accepting that I have multiple parts of myself, sometimes with conflicting emotions—and that’s totally normal!
1. Trusting Myself: Learning to trust your body and inner wisdom is so powerful. Your body knows what it needs—you just have to listen. Start small by tuning into your gut feelings and letting your body lead. The more you practice, the stronger that trust becomes.
2. Healing Doesn’t Have to Be Heavy: Healing doesn’t have to be this intense, overwhelming process. It can be playful, joyful, and full of lightness. Try incorporating fun, intuitive movement into your daily life and allow yourself to release the pressure. You’ll be amazed at how much easier healing can feel when you let in some fun! One example I give is the “Jello Wiggle”. Pretend you are a plate of jello, and someone starts to shake your plate. How would your body move as wiggly jello? Laugh, have some fun and enjoy!
3. Multiple Parts of Myself: I learned that it’s completely normal to have conflicting emotions. We’re made up of different parts, and those parts might not always agree. That’s okay! Acknowledging all these pieces of yourself is part of the healing process. Embrace the complexity and give yourself space to feel it all.
For those just starting their journey, trust your inner wisdom, lighten up the process with some play, and remember—it’s okay to have many sides to yourself. You’re exactly where you need to be!
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to playful movements. One of my favorites is playing the old-school game “Red Light, Green Light”—it’s a simple way to understand what’s happening in your body as well as release the physical and emotional tension.
Before getting into that, understanding why we feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed is helpful!
When you sense danger, your Autonomic Nervous System kicks in to protect you. First, your body enters “Fight or Flight,” releasing adrenaline and cortisol to prepare your body for action. You might feel overwhelmed, anxious, jittery, or stressed during this stage.
If the threat or pressure persists, your body moves into “Freeze,” where you shut down and feel overwhelmed or numb. The energy from “Fight or Flight” gets trapped, and you’re stuck in this cycle unless you move through it.
To release that pent-up energy, you need to go back through “Fight or Flight” and complete the process.
A fun way to practice this is by playing “Red Light, Green Light.” When you think “Green Light,” move—run, punch, or kick like you’re in fight or flight mode. When you think “Red Light,” freeze in place. Notice how your body feels as you shift between the two. It’s a playful way to help release tension and reconnect with your body!
