Meet Angie Nordby

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angie Nordby a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome while opening Ardor Salon came down to trusting my experience, embracing my role as an educator, and staying committed to my vision. With 16 years in the industry, I knew I had the expertise, but taking action despite fear was key. Surrounding myself with a strong team, seeing client and industry recognition, and staying focused on creating a space aligned with my values helped silence self-doubt. Ultimately, I reminded myself that I had already put in the work to be here, I just had to own it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Angie Nordby, owner of Ardor Salon, where we specialize in lived in color, seamless blonding, and precision haircuts with a focus on clean, low tox beauty. With 16 years in the industry, my career has spanned from behind the chair as a blonding specialist to editorial work, earning recognition as a Top 5 finalist for Behind the Chair’s Big Shot Awards. And now, as an educator and mentor.

Beyond the salon, I’m developing an education and media platform centered on clean beauty and professional growth. We also recently launched a co-stylist assisting program, bridging the gap between school and mastery. Ardor Salon is about artistry, connection, and evolving the industry in a way that’s both innovative and sustainable.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most impactful qualities in my journey have been adaptability, mentorship, and vision. The beauty industry is always evolving, so staying open to learning and embracing change is essential. Seeking ongoing education and being curious will set you apart. Mentorship played a huge role in my growth, and I encourage those starting out to find a mentor, ask questions, and shadow experienced stylists. Lastly, having a clear vision helped me make intentional choices. Take time to define your goals, explore what excites you, and build skills that align with your long term path.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Travis Parker has been instrumental in my growth as a stylist and educator. His haircutting course initially connected us, and over time, he’s become a trusted mentor and friend. With 35 years in the industry, he’s done it all from working as a platform artist, owning a successful salon, and now running his academy to help hairstylists elevate their skills and careers. His depth of knowledge and commitment to education have had a huge impact on my approach, pushing me to refine my craft and think bigger about my role in the industry.
