Meet Anlin Macmillan

We recently connected with Anlin Macmillan and have shared our conversation below.

Anlin, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Keeping creativity alive is essential in my baking and decorating process. For me, it’s all about staying curious and open to new experiences. I draw inspiration from other people—whether it’s exploring new techniques, trying out different flavors at local bakeries, or paying close attention to the details in tutorials. I love challenging myself to think outside the box, which often leads to unique and exciting creations. Being surrounded by other creative individuals and continuously learning helps keep my ideas fresh and innovative.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

About Me and My Work

Baking and decorating have always been more than just a hobby for me—they’re a form of artistic expression and a way to connect with people on a deeper level. As a home baker, I create custom cakes and treats that not only taste amazing but also serve as edible works of art. What excites me most about my work is the creative process. From the initial concept to the final decoration, each piece is a reflection of my passion for design, flavor, and the joy that food can bring to people’s lives.

What’s Special About My Brand

What sets my work apart is the personal touch and attention to detail in every creation. I love collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life, whether it’s for a special event, a milestone celebration, or just an everyday indulgence. I’m constantly exploring new techniques and flavors to keep things fresh and exciting, ensuring I meet my customers’ expectations.

I currently have a full-time job, so I only take a few orders each week. This allows me to dedicate the necessary time to focus on the details and deliver a high-quality product every time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities were most impactful in my journey: creativity, resilience, and attention to detail.

Creativity has allowed me to bring unique visions to life. For beginners, I suggest constantly seeking inspiration and trying new things. Stay curious and open to new experiences.

Resilience helped me navigate challenges. There will be setbacks, but embracing mistakes as learning opportunities is key. Persistence is essential.

Attention to detail elevates good work to great work. Focus on quality, hone your skills, and always aim to exceed expectations.

Advice for Beginners: Be patient with your growth, invest in learning, and stay passionate. Surround yourself with supportive people, and don’t rush the process.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I:

1. Break Tasks Down: Divide tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
2. Take Breaks: Step away to recharge and clear my mind.
3. Seek Support: Talk to friends or family for perspective and support.
4. Set Realistic Goals: Avoid overloading and be kind to myself.
5. Organize and Prioritize: Use lists to stay on track and focused.

These strategies help me manage stress and stay balanced.
