We were lucky to catch up with Ann Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ann, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience was shaped by the challenges I faced as a young mother, particularly in response to the criticism I received that I had jeopardized my future. Motivated by a profound sense of responsibility, I was determined to overcome these obstacles to ensure that both my life and my child’s life would not be negatively impacted. Throughout my pregnancy and beyond, I dedicated myself to advancing my education and career, striving to excel both as a professional and as a mother.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a dedicated professional with a diverse background in real estate, property development, and media. As a commercial and residential realtor, I specialize in facilitating property transactions, providing expert guidance to clients, and ensuring successful outcomes in both the commercial and residential markets. My role involves market analysis, client consultations, and negotiation to achieve optimal results for my clients.
In addition to my real estate work, I am actively engaged in property development. This role involves identifying and acquiring investment opportunities, overseeing project development, and managing all aspects of property improvement to enhance value and ensure successful project completion.
Most recently, I have expanded my professional portfolio to include television hosting, where I am the host of a nationally broadcast lifestyle show. In this capacity, I bring engaging content to viewers, featuring a range of topics related to lifestyle, design, and real estate, while also leveraging my industry expertise to offer valuable insights and advice.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my professional journey, I identify three key qualities and areas of knowledge that have been most impactful:
Forensic Accounting Expertise: My academic background in forensic accounting provided me with a solid foundation in financial analysis and scrutiny. This skill has been instrumental in running my own construction company, where I’ve applied these principles to manage financial statements effectively, ensuring accurate reporting and sound financial decisions. Additionally, this expertise has enabled me to engage confidently with investors and guide clients toward achieving their real estate objectives.
Entrepreneurial Experience: Over the past 22 years, I have gained extensive experience in growing a business from its inception. This journey has equipped me with a wealth of practical knowledge, including strategic planning, operational management, and financial oversight. This hands-on experience has been invaluable in navigating the complexities of business development and has enhanced my ability to make informed decisions and drive success.
Real Estate Proficiency: With over a decade in the real estate industry, I have been involved in a wide variety of transactions, which has broadened my understanding of the market and its intricacies. This comprehensive experience has honed my skills in negotiation and problem-solving, allowing me to anticipate potential challenges and effectively address them. My ability to identify and avoid common pitfalls in real estate transactions contributes to my effectiveness as both a negotiator and advisor.
For those early in their careers, I would emphasize the importance of continuous education and networking. Learning from others and staying informed about industry trends can help you avoid common mistakes and accelerate your professional growth.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am seeking to connect with professionals in real estate sales and development who share similar values and aspirations for collaboration and growth. My goal is to expand my company by building a cohesive team where members work closely together to achieve mutual success.
I am particularly interested in fostering a dynamic environment where knowledge and experience can be exchanged—where I can mentor others to reach their full potential and also learn from the expertise of my peers. This collaborative approach is something I have found lacking in my real estate career over the past decade, and I believe it is essential for both personal and professional development.
