Meet Ann Poirier

We were lucky to catch up with Ann Poirier recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ann, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from watching my parents and grandparents be generous.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I advocate for people with special needs and help people see the people behind the diagnosis.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Adaptability, confidence and kindness

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was seven years ago when I had my daughter Alice and she was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. I had a very hard time accepting her diagnosis but my parents didn’t. They just unconditionally loved her right from the start.
