We were lucky to catch up with Anna Astarte recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Building my confidence and self-esteem was a gradual process. Like many people, I had moments of doubt early in my career. But with each successful client and every challenge I overcame, I started to feel more confident in my skills and knowledge.
When I moved to the U.S., it was a big test for my confidence. I had to start over in a new country without a familiar environment or support system. That’s when I realized how important it is to trust in yourself and your experience. Facing those challenges taught me to rely on my abilities and not be afraid of new obstacles.
My confidence grew as I saw positive results from my work and received feedback from happy clients. Over time, I realized that success isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about learning, adapting, and pushing forward even when things are tough.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I work in trichology, and I truly believe that healthy hair is about more than just appearance—it’s about confidence. For me, this isn’t just a job; it’s a chance to help people feel better about themselves. Every day I meet new people with their own unique stories and challenges, and that makes my work really meaningful. It’s so rewarding to see how the right treatment can not only improve someone’s look but also boost their confidence.
What I really love about what I do is the opportunity to build trust with each client. I don’t just focus on the hair issue; I try to understand the person as a whole, so I can find an approach that works best for them. I want everyone who comes to see me to feel like they’re in good hands, knowing that their story matters and that their experience is unique.
My goal is to create a space where clients can openly share their concerns and hopes, and I’m there to support them every step of the way on their journey to healthier hair.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d highlight three key qualities that really impacted my journey. First, it’s persistence. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, and it was important not to give up but to keep pushing forward. My advice for anyone just starting out is to be ready for challenges and to trust in your abilities.
Second, it’s the willingness to learn. I’ve always been open to new knowledge and techniques, which has allowed me to grow as a professional. I recommend that beginners actively seek out learning opportunities, whether through courses, workshops, or simply connecting with more experienced colleagues.
Finally, it’s the ability to build relationships. Success in our field relies not only on skills but also on the ability to create trust with clients. I’d suggest not to be shy about communicating, listening, and showing genuine interest in people’s concerns. This will lay a strong foundation for a successful practice and help you grow in your career.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Yes, one challenge I’m currently facing is the emotional difficulty of being here alone. I didn’t plan to immigrate; it was a forced decision, and I find myself missing my home deeply. Everything feels foreign, and starting over—whether it’s rebuilding my business, making new friends, or just navigating daily life—has been really tough.
It’s a struggle to adapt to a new environment where everything is different. I often feel the weight of loneliness and the pressure to create a new support system from scratch. Despite these challenges, I’m working on finding ways to connect with the community and build relationships, knowing that it takes time and patience. It’s definitely a journey, but I hope to find my footing here.
