We recently connected with Anna Pasztor and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I come from a diverse family; my parents had almost opposing personalities and came from different backgrounds. Over the years, I have thought a lot about them, and one of the few things I have found in common is that they both endured serious hardships. Despite this, they loved life and were full of energy, jokes, and playfulness, which was a frequent occurrence in our home. Therefore, I would say that my optimism comes from my upbringing. Additionally, being an eclectic person and enjoying a variety of things also contributes to my optimism. Having diverse interests allows me to keep moving forward when faced with difficulties. It gives me the ability to pivot or slow down and wait for “better times”. I understand that having many different interests may prevent me from becoming specialized in one area, but it also serves as a tool to overcome hardships.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City. Over the years I have worked on projects in the fields of dance, theater, and video. I created installations and, most recently, I have been working on mixed media pieces.
A few years ago I was intensively working on video editing, and I needed to compensate for the long hours spent in front of the computer. That’s how I started to learn jewelry making, which led to the creation of my small business named ANNANAdesign. I love working with wire and gemstones. I sell my handmade jewelry at fairs and through my Etsy shop –https://www.etsy.com/shop/
I have two major events coming up soon
– My Solo Show at Solas Studio has a Closing Reception on Saturday, November 16 from 4pm-7pm with an Artist Talk scheduled for 5pm.
Location: Solas Studio, 117 East 24th Street, 2nd Floor, NY, NY 10010
– On Saturday, December 7 from 10am-3pm, I will also be selling my prints and jewelry at the Pleasantville Campus of Pace University
Address: 861 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville, NY 10570
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe that curiosity, open-mindedness, and flexibility are crucial qualities for achieving success in any creative profession. By creative profession, I am not just referring to artistic pursuits, but also to fields such as science and entrepreneurship. Curiosity allows us to continuously learn and avoid stagnation, open-mindedness enables us to uncover hidden opportunities, and flexibility allows us to step out of our comfort zone and grow more easily.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I outgrew my apartment, as many of us do in New York City. This presents a constant challenge in all aspects of my life. I am currently focusing on marketing my work in order to generate more resources for my future projects.
