We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anna Rambo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
There is no one way to fully answer this question. The short answer: I love what I do and I’m passionate about finding ways to better myself a little bit each day both personally and professionally. Each day is an opportunity to gain a new skill, grab coffee with a friend, learn something about the world, adventure to an unfamiliar place, or read a bit of advice to help you on your journey. I feel like my optimism comes from my ability to view my time as an invitation for exciting things to happen. You never know what life may bring you next. In leading with optimism, one gains the ability to be open to new experiences that may expand them as a person. I’m optimistic because I believe that life gets better with each day, my life is full of hopes and dreams that give me the mindset that the greatest opportunities are within your reach.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor based in New York City. I recently graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre, something I’ve always wanted to do from a very young age. I’m living the dream! I have always had a passion for the arts that stemmed from a background in ballet. I remember my first time on a big stage and realizing that I’m meant to be a storyteller. I’ve always had big dreams, and all those dreams have done is expand! In learning more about the world and myself at my core, I find more opportunities and projects I’d love to be a part of, including more outlets to be a storyteller. I always thought growing up I would exclusively work towards being on Broadway. However, through pursuing my art at a higher capacity and at a collegiate level, I have found many additional ways to chase what I love about being in the arts. The best stories aren’t limited to one way of telling them! Stories are expansive and stretch across many platforms and medias. In recent years, I have developed a great passion for tv/film acting. I love the idea of being able to connect with an audience in such an intimate and intense way to tell a story that may change them, make them feel differently about the world, or interact with others in a new way. I have had the wonderful opportunity to work on more tv/film projects in the last few years since moving to NYC and I have found another outlet for my art that makes me excited every day. I’m an actor, I’m a storyteller, and that is something that is special in both a live setting and on tv/film. I am so excited to continue pursuing the dream I’ve had since I was a little kid of acting on stage, while additionally expanding my passion for acting through working in tv/film. I’m so grateful to be doing what I love. With that in mind, I’m so excited about the very near future in which I have the wonderful opportunity to combine both my love for theatre, and tv/film, with an independent film titled “So Long, Farewell” by Eleanor Wells.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities I would list that have been impactful in my journey are: being kind to yourself, pushing yourself, and being true to yourself. I think that practicing these qualities, in short, makes me happy! I feel more fulfilled in my life, both day to day and big picture, through putting these qualities into action. I celebrate accomplishments both big and small, I think it’s important to acknowledge and be grateful for where you currently are in your journey in relation to where you’ve been. I try to live in the moment, appreciating what opportunities and experiences are available to me in the present. I push myself and better myself in some capacity every single day both personally and professionally, giving me that feeling of satisfaction in what I choose to be involved with. But, being true to yourself is my biggest piece of advice. You know who you are better than anyone else, you have big dreams, and you know what you love about your journey. Express that! Share that kindness, passion, and truth in what you do! The times in my life where I’ve felt my worst, have been times where I’ve felt like I’m not presenting an authentic version of myself! You deserve to be your biggest fan, your most passionate advocate, and your truest self.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and try to understand what is within my reach to resolve. What is within my control and what is out of my control? This question seems rather simple, but can alleviate you from a world of worry. Take smaller bites out of something that may seem like a huge task, chipping away at it is better than not dealing with it at all. Additionally, when I am feeling overwhelmed, I sometimes like to do very tangible things to make me feel accomplished such as going for a nice walk, reaching out to a friend that I should reconnect with, or even taking a shower so I can come back to whatever is overwhelming me with fresh eyes and a clean self. I also enjoy creating mantras that I can use at any moment when I’m feeling overwhelmed to make me feel grounded again, such as: “Be calm, be kind” or “I have a clear conscience, an open mind, and an incredibly loving and loved heart”. There will always be something to stress you out, but it’s how you look at that stress and address it that makes all the difference.
