We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Anne Fishkin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Anne , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My dad. My father’s always been one that instilled with me that hard work pays off. As I’ve grown older, I have reframed that to a more gentle “where energy goes energy flows” mentality. My dad always pushed for his 8 kids to have a better life than he did. He worked hard and launched his own business in medicine in Greeley Colorado that has now expanded to serve all of Northern Colorado, some of Denver, and Wyoming. He also always taught me that you “catch more flies with honey not salt” so while you can work hard, you should also, be kind.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a woman that wears many hats – including but not limited to sister, wife, daughter, marathon runner, yogi, travel enthusiast, skier, hiker, sober curious mixologist, writer, ad sales specialist, marketing director and friend.
What’s most exciting about who I am, is that I get to live in this incredible game of life and help impactful brands grow and help communities feel held and supported.
I invest my time purposefully. We are all connected.
At Amazon Ads I am a Sr. Industry Marketing Manager where I am craft the thought leadership for top categories, work with ad sales teams to drive revenue, dive deep into data and story tell.
At Absence of Proof (AoP), I curate custom events that don’t involve alcohol including working with local brands and businesses where we sing and dance to live music, relax with sound baths, hold writing workshops, relax with yoga classes and so much more. Our sober curious AoP community is incredible and we are always looking for new ways to find fun and engaging events to build connection and community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1.) Confidence 2.) Commitment 3.) Community
Without the internal drive and knowingness that YOU can in fact do this, your outer support will only take you so far. You need to feel deep in your soul that YOU can in fact do this, and guess what you can. You’re not a tree, if you don’t like where you are, move.
Without dedication, repetition and habit, we fall into our own patterns of destruction. Find your ‘recipe’ for what fills your cup – what gives you energy? What depletes you? How can you find harmony among those two and lean into soul filling activities to ensure you’re staying focused on your end goal?
Without people, there is no impact. Don’t forget about your people – we are all connected after all. Ensure when you’re building out your vision, you’re not just thinking of your paycheck, you’re thinking of how this will impact others, in a positive way. Bring others up with you, this isn’t about a solo adventure, take others on the ride with you and bring them up. We’re all on this wild ride of life, together.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking to grow and learn from others and I love hosting – most recently I hosted a women’s founders group where we painted, nibbled on food and sipped on non alcoholic beverages.
If you’re interested in working together on an event, could use brand advice or are interested in joining a non-alcoholic women’s founders group let’s connect!
