We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Annie Combs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Annie below.
Annie, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Running a business based off of personal creativity can be challenging at times! Being the owner and sole employee of Enjoy The Perk has many perks in itself but it also means that I am mostly on my own when it comes to coming up with new ideas. I believe that one of the best ways to keep your creativity alive is by staying interested and invested in what you are doing or creating. If you are committed, enjoy what you’re doing, and want to see your business continue to grow, you can find new ideas everywhere around you (at least for me)! I am constantly searching for and thinking of new things I can change or add to my business to help it grow. Although it can be challenging at times, it can also be one of the most fun parts!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started perk in the midst of Covid when many of us were stuck at home and did not have much access to, such as easy gifting! I created an instagram account, came up with a few gift options, and posted them for Mother’s Day not knowing what the outcome would be. I sold out of all of my perks and was immediately hooked! Launching during a holiday made it easy for me… I then had to figure out how to make it all last. Since April 2020 when I began perk, I have grown more than I every dreamed and have even recently launched a website! Customers all over the country can now access my gift shop and it is a dream come true. I truly enjoy creating each of my gifts and am always coming up with new ideas and new products I can include in my shop.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think that the three things that have been most helpful with my journey are creativity, drive, and truly enjoying what I am doing. Be creative and strive to do something no one has done before! Have drive to continue to grow your business. And lastly, enjoy what you do. If you are not excited or fully invested in what you are creating, your experience will not be as enjoyable as it can be and you may not be able to reach your full potential!
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
It can be easy to get overwhelmed or even burnt out at times. When this happens, I do not push myself. Instead, I take a little break! Having a few hours or even a few days to process and reset will do wonders. When you feel more organized and ready to tackle your tasks, you can go into it with a clearer mindset and a fresh start.
