Meet Annie McKnight

We recently connected with Annie McKnight and have shared our conversation below.

Annie , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
WELLLLLLL! It has simmered for years not in a bad or good perspective it just is. A little confusing huh? Yes it is because other people make that “that” ( only one in the room that looks like me a potential issue). When I was younger I received a lot of warnings “remember who you are”. So, I remembered. I remember the good and bad then made a decision choose joy no matter what, release their negativity BREATHE!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Currently rediscovering myself after the SAG-AFTRA strike. I’ve been a SAG member for years this was my first lengthy strike. I’m happy we reached an agreement. The strike I feel increased the independents creativity. During my down time, I rediscovered my other gift working with Special needs children (LD) emphasis on speech and language as a SLPA. Its rewarding double fold for the child, family and me. How rewarding for parents to hear utterances turn into laughter, words and songs. I’ve wrote several children songs. I’m currently excited about a new venture for children. We all have components that are within our vessel that are hidden jewels. Explore your vessel. The strike is over the spotlight is back. Time for business. I’m happy the auditions have returned live shows the hustle.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Joy, Gift Of Gab and Behavior. You need peace within yourself which creates Joy. Why joy, because its an inner tool that’s needed to keep you in one accord with yourself, ummmm quality my “gift of gab” a double edge sword. Either talking too much at the wrong time, in class etc., was self-defeating, but my behavior due to a strict mama groomed me to have self discipline that is still beneficial. Our behavior is so important it creates a live environment. I automatically know to stop at the RED light a childhood rule, good behavior. However; so many people are hurt through behavior, lack of joy and not talking about an issue while using good behavior. My first advise “Do U” allow your best to flow in your chosen craft or field. Gather your needed tools to perform your craft, if it requires going to a location plan time and route pack your Joy, GOG is your positive talk to you by thinking on your best self, its not a typo, Think On U and keep the best behavior don’t allow distractions or other people bad behavior distract your peace.
Keep your behavior on Joy! Some maybe thinking yeah right Annie give us the real goods self control.
Joy, GOG, Behavior

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
THE MAGIC OF BELIEVING BY CLAUDE M. BRISTOL I was invited to do an interview about my character “Grannie Annie” on the Jobman Caravan show hosted by Mr. Bill Terrell. He introduced me to this book when I was in college in S.C. It goes back to my belief our thoughts are powerful. Think good of yourself be positive be patient never give up. A great read impactful.
