Meet Anoop Surya

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anoop Surya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Anoop, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I think my source of resilience is my family, mom and dad, and my friends. The community of filmmakers I work with daily inspires me to be better each day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m an actor, VFX artist, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. At my core, I’m a storyteller—and I’m fortunate that my passion has become my profession.

What excites me most right now is working on the feature film, ‘Mirror Mirror’, currently in production in Orlando, Florida. I’m playing the male lead in this feature film that explores the complexities of marriage, rekindled relationships, and how far someone will go to protect the people they love. What makes this project special is the team—a group of filmmaker friends and collaborators I’ve worked with before, all coming together to bring this story to life.

I’m also thrilled about the upcoming release of Operation Fernsby, a sitcom I had an absolute blast working on. It follows two spy brothers navigating the 1930s Baltimore espionage scene while trying to keep their sibling rivalry in check—all while dealing with a dramatic daughter, a British-obsessed cousin, and a millionaire hillbilly who adds to the chaos. I play the hillbilly, ‘Ralph’. This has been an absolute joy of a character for me to play, and I’m ever-grateful to Sheepshed Entertainment for this opportunity. It’s hilarious and really opened doors for me in acting and filmmaking.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I’d say my most valuable skill is my ability to learn quickly—whether it’s directly related to what I’m working on or something completely new. That curiosity, combined with diligence and consistency, keeps me moving forward every day.

For anyone starting out in any industry, my advice is simple: become a constant learner of your craft. Put in the hours—those 10,000 hours everyone talks about—but more importantly, stay curious and committed to growth. That’s what separates those who make it from those who don’t.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

One of the most important things my parents instilled in me was respect for hard work—and the understanding that there’s no substitute for it. I’m deeply grateful for that foundation.
They’ve also been incredibly supportive of my decision to pursue acting full-time. Even though they don’t fully understand the ins and outs of the industry, they’re always sending me articles or news about film and TV so we can talk about it. That effort to stay connected and involved in what I do means everything, especially in an industry that’s constantly evolving. Having that support system makes all the difference.
