We were lucky to catch up with Anoush Alexanyan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anoush, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I live by the motto “chase your passion, not your pension.” Initially, before becoming a talent agent, I ran a catering company, where I’d reach out to hundreds of celebrities daily. Luckily, I landed Paris Hilton as my first client, who opened many doors and opportunities for me, which led me to cater to numerous other A-listers as well. I was inspired by a friend of mine to transition myself into becoming a talent agent since I was already surrounded by people within the Hollywood entertainment industry. After persistent efforts in trying to find the right company to give me a chance at becoming a talent agent, I met Carter Dandridge and George Baker, who changed my career path and my life. I joined ASAP Talent Agency as a full-time talent agent, and through my relentless effort in contacting Hollywood industry professionals, I was able to start 2024 off by securing a deal that propelled our agency to have 1 billion social media reach with our talent roster. I pursued my dream to become the best possible talent agent in LA by emailing hundreds of casting agents, producers, directors, brands, companies, and PR companies, where I’d set meetings to be on top of everything that goes on in the entertainment industry. I had to gain confidence in myself, which is something I’ve lacked the majority of my life, to see things transition into what it is today. I had to achieve the dream for myself, to have the talents that I work with today to believe in the vision I’ve created for the future of ASAP Talent Agency and believe in me to have me represent them as an agent.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In my role as a talent agent, I specialize in catapulting talent into the spotlight through helping them get casted on TV shows, movies, and commercials. Beyond that, I secure lucrative brand endorsement deals for our talent’s social media platforms, and coordinate for our talent to attend elite events with important press coverage – such as movie premiers, red carpet events, award shows, concerts, sports games, etc. Some upcoming endeavors that I’m excited for are some of the biggest movie premier red carpets we attained passes for throughout the year, the glamorous Oscars events, and we have a few exciting paid social media campaigns as well. I look forward to seeing the many different films, shows, and commercials some of our talent is casted in for this year as well. The future holds many thrilling projects, that we can’t necessarily disclose yet, but they fuel my passion to continue achieving new heights everyday.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three skills that were the most impactful in my journey were self confidence, the cliche term of persistency, and self motivation. I always strive to keep myself confident, because I believed that if I wasn’t confident in myself and my work, my talent wouldn’t have a reason to be confident in me and believe in me. When it comes to persistency, I know everybody says you have to be persistent, but it’s true. I was relentless in sending hundreds of emails everyday, and that inspiration came from one of the people I admire most in the industry, being Michael Ovits. In his book, he explains how he would set over 30 meetings per day, and answer 300+ phones a day too. I wanted to be like him, so I keep chasing that vision, because that’s going to be my future. And finally, with self motivation, I believe you have to keep yourself going, no matter what obstacles life may throw your way. We each have our own path, our own journey, and you can’t dwell over things in Hollywood for long periods of time, or that will take away from your dream, your passion. You have to keep yourself going no matter what happens, because in order to be the best, you have to feel the best. For anybody starting off new, I would tell them to not let anybody’s opinions of themselves and their career choice affect them, and I would tell them to think with a “tunnel vision,” where it’s only one goal, one path, and don’t let anything in life hold you back from what you’re passionate about.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my family ever did for me, was not believing in me and my career choices. For the last few years, a lot of my efforts were very unsuccessful, which put a large strain on my relationship with my family. Most people in my position would’ve given up, and became the typical lawyer or doctor their parents wanted them to be. Initially, I pursued law in college, and dropping out was the biggest disappointment for my family. But, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do for myself, and I knew I was meant for a greater purpose in life. I had a friend that kept pushing me to be the best version of myself and to keep going, to which I’m grateful for, because it allowed me to shut out all negative thoughts from my mind that my family would cause. Now, I’m very happy with the decisions I’ve made, and I’d make the same choices all over again, to be where I am today.
