We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Sometimes it does feel like we are the only ones navigating success for a diverse background of upcoming artist. Being In an ever-evolving music industry, there is a growing emphasis on giving better payout opportunities to upcoming artists. While progress is being made, it’s still not common for aspiring musicians to find themselves getting fair shakes. Whether it’s due to a lack of resources, race, ethnicity, gender, or any other aspect of identity, navigating this unique position can be both challenging and empowering. Learning to be effective and successful under such circumstances requires a blend of self-confidence, resilience, and strategic networking. Embrace your uniqueness God gave you. Being the only one in the room can be intimidating, but embracing your uniqueness is essential. Embrace your identity, build a strong support network, remain persistent, and use your platform to educate and advocate for inclusivity. Remember, your talent and resilience is unique.
