We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony Bennetts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Hi Anthony, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Great first question, I always want to help people either by physical, mental, or spiritual. Photography hits on the mental, physical, and emotional level. My physical job hits on all of it. So, what I am saying is that my life is encompassed with helping people. It always has been part of me.
But, what got me started in photography is my grandma and aunt always taking pictures at family events. I always dabbled with photography growing up, even did yearbook Senior year of high school. I didn’t fully pursue it till about 3 years ago.
I love Photography, it allows me to capture what I see in my mind and able to convey it properly. My goal is to always take the viewer to different mental state, hopefully a positive state.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Howdy yall! My name is Anthony Bennetts and this is my 2nd round being featured here and I’m glad to be back! This will be a short and sweet introduction. I am a photographer, painter, and full-time groundskeeper. I work for Avalon Housing, it’s a non-profit organization that provides long-term housing to people experiencing chronic homelessness and other low income families.
I really started pursuing photography about 3 years ago. I’ve dabbled wit it growing and even being part of the yearbook in high school. I was inspired to get into photography from my grandma and aunt. They are always taking photos of all the family events and then putting the pictures in scrapbooks.
I recently got into painting out of the whim. I tend to paint abstract. I was inspired by my 2 uncles who use to paint, when they were young, and also by a great grandma, who was phenomenal at painting.
Currently, I am working on getting to do markets and art shows to sell my works. I am waiting for a few markets applications to open up.
I do have a few pictures and paintings up for sale at Anthony’s Gourmet Pizza, the Packard location only.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Yet again, another amazing question. I say to always be in the present moment and be aware of your surroundings. I’m inspired everyday. I don’t always need to catch moments on lens, some moments are just for me. Be kind to myself.
My advice for folks who early in the journey is be in the present and aware of your surroundings. It’s okay not to take pictures of every moment, some moments are for you. Be kind to yourself. Don’t hurt yourself for “that” shot. Be willing to experiment. Make mistakes. There’s more to photography than just doing portraits.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am looking to collaborate with other artists and photographers and capture them in their works. Would love to capture that firery passion in photos. Would love to connect with all type of artists and photographers.
You can connect with me through my Instagram, anthonyjames_734 is my username. Leave me a message on what you do and what are your thoughts of the collab.
