We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony Martin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Anthony with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Work ethic is one of, if not the most important skill that I posses. My parents instilled this in me at a young age. I am also a Michelin starred chef so there were many, many long days/nights spent in the kitchen. Working in the hospitality industry at a high level requires a tremendous amount of dedication, work ethic goes hand in hand with the dedication.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I create one of one custom items with a focus on luxury brands. Attention to detail and functionality are always at the forefront of my designs. As my brand has developed I have become very passionate about reinventing vintage items as well as creating an emotional connection between my clients and the pieces that I create for them. Weather it is incorporating something sentimental that they may send me or reimagining something that maybe does not get the attention that it once did, I want them to LOVE it everytime that it gets used. Throughout my years spent in the kitchen a surprising and extremely gratifying skill that I developed was paying attention to very small details with each individual guest. Weather is was something basic like remembering a birthday or a specific off menu dish that I would cook for them based on their past experience with us, I quickly saw how special I could make guests feel…. creating an emotional connection with clients is something I strive for everyday.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patients, self motivation, and the willingness to be uncomfortable. I am 100% self taught (thank you youtube!!!). There were many days while learning my craft that were very frustrating. Sewing needles would break, bags would not line up during assembly, embroidery would not turn out as envisioned…. the list is endless. Making myself learn why these issues were occurring and how to correct them was a long process but ultimately it is also what allowed my design to reach new levels.
Starting Saint Anthony was, and at times still very much is a grind. There are less demanding ways that I could make a living, but for me the grind is motivating.
It sounds very cliche for advice, but I would certainly say to follow your passion. If there is no passion towards what you do those difficult times will seem crushing. I have always been very determined and I feel that the love and passion that goes into my work is a big part of its success.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
With all of my projects being one of one it allows Saint Anthony to be very organic. I have had the opportunity to design items for some very well know brands. I would love to do more of this in the future. Collaborating with other brands or creating pieces that showcase them is always an awesome experience. I receive an overwhelming amount of requests from professionals in the influencer space. For me, I am looking to work with brands or individuals that want to develop a relationship that can beneficial for everyone involved.
