We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Antonio Contreras . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Antonio below.
Hi Antonio , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
For me it’s really survival, a natural instinct.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I began working in fashion very early, art took over and then films. In 2013 after a long career painting watercolors and dressing some of the most important people in San Francisco, I stumble upon the opportunity to make films, someone wanted to interview me and they wanted to know about my fashion collection (I collect pieces since the 90s) a film production came with their cameras and I talked about my love for art, fashion and cinema and the film “Antonio’s Closet” was born, that’s how I named my production company, a year after.
This film
Antonio’s closet opened the doors earning me awards at the Miami International Fashion Film
festival and the Merced’s Benz fashion film festival in South Africa, I started making short independent fashion films after.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I never liked the way some of us were represented on the big screen or in fashion magazines, a lot of people might feel the same way. That pushed me to create my own narrative, I never let anyone produce my films because I wanted to have full
Control and tell the stories I wanted to tell.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Many people really From teachers at a very young age that taught basic things such as painting techniques to parents and collaborators that taught me work ethics and of course muses who inspire me.
