Meet Antony Post

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Antony Post. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Antony, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism is rooted in the desire to actualize the stories I imagine in my head. As much as I celebrate collaborating with other talented individuals, I savor the quiet moments when I can open my computer and start writing. Nothing will improve an optimistic perspective more than feeling satisfied with the stories that no longer only reside within me. When I’m writing a new script, I have the power to fill my glass half full.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am very excited to have released my award winning short film “Nova”, which presently represents my artistic focus as it’s a fantastical coming of age story. As the writer, director, editor, and producer, it is incredibly humbling to see the film connecting with audiences from coast to coast. Additionally, I have just started work on an original theatrical musical, re-teaming with my frequent collaborator Matt Eyles.

When I’m not creating, I’m covering film and awards season alongside my co-host Jack Murphy on “Oscar Film Forecast” on YouTube. Between attending special screenings and meeting other cinephiles, it has been a wonderful opportunity to share my passion for cinema over the past three seasons.

With all of this, I’m grateful I have found a path where the hobbies of my childhood are transformed into the career of my adulthood. I never expected all of this so quickly, and it’s so special to feel the impact of goodness. Connecting over art is one of the purest forms of communication we know.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Learn yourself, learn your audience, and learn how to unite the two. Every challenge or obstacle that has faced me can be overcome with those three queries. Learning who you are and what you admire goes a lot farther than I ever realized. Just by identifying what movies, shows, or anything you love will go a long way in clarifying what kind of artist you want to be. I used to doubt myself because I was letting others determine how I saw myself and my work – fight that urge and understand who you are. I’ve witnessed that first hand being surrounded by poets, painters, and other storytellers. More than anything, everyone loves an authentic.

Learning your audience doesn’t mean you pander to them, but instead grasp how your work will be received. Art is a language, communicating ideas and emotions; learning how to define your means of expression is a valuable tool. When I worked as a theatrical director, this was made clear to me thanks to the live audience. There were ideas from my vision that worked swimmingly, others not so much. In that moment, you dig yourself out of the hole and find the creative compromise to make sure your story is understood while maintaining the creative personality that fueled it from the beginning.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

It has been a privilege to create alongside not just amazingly talented individuals but those who are kind and generous first and foremost. If you are watching something made by people who love and respect each other, those emotions are felt by the audience. If anyone has a story to tell, I would love the opportunity to help you tell it.
