Meet Anyah Gilmore-Jones

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anyah Gilmore-Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Anyah, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity stems from my grandmother’s influence. She has always been exceptionally giving, offering whatever she could, even when resources were scarce. Her example taught me that generosity extends beyond financial contributions, encompassing the giving of time, energy, and other non-monetary resources. This lesson continues to shape my understanding and practice of generosity to this day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As an experiential marketing professional and social media strategist, I specialize in creating immersive brand experiences that connect deeply with audiences. What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to blend creativity, cultural exploration, and community engagement.

I’ve had the privilege of marketing top events like Hyde Park Summerfest and Curlfest. These experiences allow me to craft memorable interactions that bring brands to life in meaningful ways. Also, my passion for cultural exploration led me to found The Travel Circle at The Gathering Spot, continue vlogging on my Youtube channel, and volunteer for organizations who focus on celebrating cultural diversity and fostered community connections.

Currently, I’m excited about my completion with Goldman Sachs’ One Million Black Women initiative, which aims to address gender and racial biases faced by Black women. This program, which commits substantial investment capital and philanthropic support, aligns perfectly with my goal of empowering diverse communities through my work in marketing and brand representation.

Looking ahead, I’m eager to continue pushing the boundaries of experiential marketing, always with an eye towards cultural sensitivity and community impact. Whether it’s through innovative social media campaigns or immersive brand activations, my goal is to create experiences that not only engage audiences but also contribute positively to our diverse cultural landscape.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three key factors that were most impactful in my journey were:

1. Leveraging my network: Building and maintaining strong professional relationships opened doors to opportunities I might not have discovered otherwise. Your network can provide invaluable insights, mentorship, and connections that can significantly accelerate your career growth.

2. Recognizing the value in all experiences: Every role, project, or challenge contributes to your overall growth, even if it’s not immediately apparent. What may seem unrelated today could become a crucial skill or insight tomorrow. Embracing this mindset helps you find value and learning opportunities in every situation.

3. Consistently showing up as your best self: Bringing your A-game every day, regardless of the task at hand, builds a reputation for reliability and excellence. This approach not only improves your skills but also makes you stand out to colleagues and superiors.

Advice for those early in their journey:

1. Network intentionally: Attend industry events, join professional groups, and reach out to people whose careers you admire. Be genuine in your interactions and always look for ways to provide value to others.

2. Embrace diverse experiences: Don’t shy away from roles or projects outside your comfort zone. Each experience adds a unique dimension to your skill set and perspective, making you more versatile and valuable in the long run.

3. Cultivate a growth mindset: Approach each day as an opportunity to learn and improve. Set personal standards of excellence and strive to meet them consistently, regardless of who’s watching. This habit will serve you well throughout your career.

4. Develop your “woo” skills: As an extrovert, lean into your natural ability to connect with others. “Woo,” or “winning others over,” is a valuable skill in many professional contexts. Practice engaging with different personalities and building rapport quickly.

5. Learn to communicate with all types of people: Develop the ability to adapt your communication style to different personalities, backgrounds, and professional levels. This skill is crucial for effective collaboration, leadership, and networking.

6. Reflect regularly: Take time to consider how your current experiences might benefit you in the future. This practice can help you stay motivated and find purpose in your day-to-day work.

7. Seek feedback and act on it: Regularly ask for constructive criticism from peers and mentors. Use this feedback to continually refine your skills and approach.

By focusing on these areas, you’ll be well-positioned to make the most of your journey, turning each experience into a stepping stone towards your goals and leveraging your natural extroversion to build strong professional relationships along the way.
