Hi April, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I’m a whirlwind, yes, but a joyful one. I thrive on the buzz of activity, the juggle of projects, the constant feeling of growth and connection. But unlike my pre-burnout days, I now understand that this vibrant energy stems from a deep well of intentionality and self-care. It’s a lesson I not only learned the hard way, but one I’m passionate about sharing with my clients as a Health Coach.
Burnout was a brutal teacher. It showed me that “self-care” wasn’t just bubble baths and face masks (though those can be lovely!). It’s the very foundation of my life, the fuel that keeps the engine running smoothly and the light shining brightly. And just like I wouldn’t offer my clients a car with an empty tank, I wouldn’t guide them on a wellness journey without emphasizing the power of conscious recharge.
My self-care practices are my personal kaleidoscope, ever-shifting and adapting to my needs and seasons. Sometimes, it’s the quiet solitude of a yoga or Pilates session, the grounding energy of a barefoot walk in the morning dew, or the simple act of savoring a meal without distractions. Other times, it’s the laughter and connection of spending time with loved ones, sharing stories and creating memories.
Learning to say no was a game-changer. It allowed me to prioritize my well-being and stop spreading myself too thin. Setting boundaries around my time isn’t selfish; it’s essential for showing up as my best self for myself and in turn, for my clients, friends, and family. They deserve a coach (or friend) who is rested, recharged, and brimming with the kind of positive energy that comes from knowing your own needs are met.
Ultimately, prioritizing my well-being isn’t just about me. It’s about showing up fully for the people and projects I care about. When I’m grounded and my cup is overflowing, I have more energy, patience, and creativity to give. I can be a better partner, friend, colleague, and most importantly, a Health Coach who can truly walk alongside my clients on their own journeys.
I believe in leading by example, in embodying the principles I advocate for. By openly sharing my own struggles and triumphs with self-care, I create a space for vulnerability and authenticity with my clients. We explore together what “recharge” looks like for them, building personalized routines that nourish their minds, bodies, and spirits.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to self-care, and that’s the beauty of it. It’s a personal journey of discovery, and as a Health Coach, I’m honored to be a guide on that path. Together, we learn to listen to our needs, honor our boundaries, and cultivate a wellspring of inner peace that radiates outward, touching not just ourselves, but also those around us.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities stand out as beacons that illuminated my path and fueled my impact: the insatiable hunger for learning, the unwavering commitment to living by design, and the agility to embrace the pivot.
For those of you early in your voyage, I offer these nuggets from my own treasure chest:
1. Find your North Star of Passion: What makes your heart sing? That, my friends, is your North Star. It may not appear overnight, but keep searching, exploring, and trying things on. Don’t let the journey of discovery discourage you – it’s in the very act of seeking that you’ll stumble upon hidden talents and unexpected joys. Remember, your passion is your fuel, so invest in it every day. Read, learn, connect with others who light your fire. Let it guide your choices and decisions, and watch it propel you forward with unwavering momentum.
2. Walk the Talk, Live the Learn: Knowledge without action is a beautiful library untouched. Take your learnings – from books, mentors, experiences – and weave them into the tapestry of your daily life. Practice the principles, experiment with their application, and embody the new perspectives. It’s through consistent action that knowledge truly transforms into wisdom, shaping your journey and influencing those around you.
3. Embrace the Dance of the Pivot: Life, like a seasoned waltz, rarely unfolds in a straight line. Be prepared to adjust your steps, to gracefully pivot when the rhythm changes. Don’t mistake it for failure; see it as an opportunity for growth, a chance to refine your compass and discover new paths.
