Meet April Soto

We recently connected with April Soto and have shared our conversation below.

April , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

It is often true that I am the only one in the room that looks like me. This was true in childhood, college, medical school and in the workplace. Growing up in Guatemala as the child of Puerto Rican missionaries gave me a perspective that I carry with me until this day. I have gratitude and a flexible nature that I would not likely have if it weren’t for this experience.
This has brought me to a place of success because I have learned to embrace my authenticity and uniqueness. I have come to realize that many people feel as though they do not fit in with others and this can be painful. Being comfortable with myself has helped me learn how to regular my central nervous system. And the beautiful thing is that my patients can learn how to regulate their own central nervous system, and we can co-regulate together. Modeling healthy behavior has been quite important in my success as it feels great to be true to myself and offer that level of transparency with my patients.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

LALIM Health is a direct primary care practice that operates on a membership model, offering comprehensive primary care services for a flat monthly fee. This approach provides patients with access to high-quality care and fosters improved health outcomes. Many patients find this model well-suited to their needs, as it offers easier access to care, longer appointments, shorter wait times, and a focus on truly being heard, without feeling rushed.

My practice is built around personalized care, guided by core principles such as patient safety, transparency, and an open-door policy. I prioritize listening to my patients and respecting their perspectives, ensuring they feel valued throughout their healthcare journey.

In addition to primary care, I provide mental health services for conditions such as PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Treatments like Ketamine and Breathwork have helped many patients, and it’s a privilege to guide them as they reconnect with their own inner healing capabilities.

For those seeking more specialized a-la-carte care, I also offer menopause hormone treatments and functional gut health testing, with tailored treatment plans designed to meet the unique needs of each patient.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The enemy of good is perfection. Staying stuck in “analysis paralysis” would only hinder my growth. I remind myself that I am worthy, valuable, and enough just as I am, and the same goes for everyone else. So, I prepare as best I can, then take action. Trying and adjusting as needed has been crucial. Failure holds no shame; the real regret lies in not trying at all due to fear of failure. I step forward with confidence, embrace self-love, and enjoy the journey.

Consistency is essential. Showing up regularly is key. Small changes over time can lead to huge transformations. This principle is vital in both my personal and professional life.

Living and working authentically has made all the difference. It’s important to reflect on advice, but ultimately, I make decisions based on my own understanding, knowledge, and intuition. This approach has been invaluable throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The universe has presented numerous opportunities for growth while also providing the support I’ve needed along the way. The biggest challenge I’ve faced has been learning how to get out of my own way. I’ve worked through this with therapy and my personal experience with Ketamine to heal from trauma. Learning to love, trust, and approve of myself has been the key to finding success as an entrepreneur.
