We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aquilla Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aquilla, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Feels like the moment I finally said, “I’m taking control of my life,” that’s when all hell broke loose. But what I thought was a breakdown… was actually a divine setup. A cosmic classroom where pain became my professor, And The Most High? My headmaster. See, I didn’t realize then—chaos was the currency of my calling.
Because The Most High couldn’t use me fully
Until I had been emptied—of pride, distractions, illusions, and attachments. My grandma used to look me straight in my soul and say: “Quilla… you are somebody.” Back then, it sounded like love. Now, I know it was prophecy. I went inward—deep. Did the shadow work. Faced the mirrors I use to avoid. And that’s when purpose cracked wide open. My mission? To help The Most High save as many souls as possible. But to do that, I had to be purified by the fire of my own tribulations. Betrayal. Lies. Workplace harassment. Alcohol. Percocets. Homeless nights and repossessed dreams… Yet in the midst—not the end— I rose. I bounced back harder, launched a business while still bleeding,
Sobered up, stood tall, and became a living testimony that God is real. The Most High had to strip me down to the bare essence—
Just me, Him, and my ancestors whispering through the silence. Isolation wasn’t punishment—it was preservation. Because I kept failing the same tests, and the lessons had to get louder.
Until finally—I surrendered. And oh, what peace lives in surrender. Now I overstand:
Every day is an exam, and I’m on assignment.
I walk with wisdom in my bones,
My grandmother’s words tattooed on my spirit:
“You are somebody.” I no longer seek from man what I know only the Source can give. So I pray.
I meditate. I research my soul. I ground myself in truth. Because my resilience? That’s not just survival—it’s sacred. Every storm was preparation. Every scar, a signature. Every test… a testimony. And I’m here to make it all count.
Because I am somebody. And The Most High made no mistake with me. I am Aquilla Corinthia Smith.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What do I do? I show up and change the room—period. I’m a vessel, a voice, a vibe… A walking intersection of art, healing, and divine assignment. I act, I model, I influence—not for clout, but for calling. Each frame I strike, each word I deliver, Carries legacy, energy, and intention. I don’t just entertain—I activate.
Whether it’s on stage, in front of a lens, behind the scenes, Or building my empire with Innovative Q LLC Everything I touch gets baptized in purpose. Innovative Q LLC isn’t just a business—it’s a movement. A bold, visionary brand created to inspire, empower, and shift culture. It’s where creativity meets purpose and healing meets hustle. Through media, storytelling, and community-driven impact, Innovative Q LLC is designed to spark minds, restore souls, And remind people of their own divine greatness. What’s exciting? It’s the fact that I wake up knowing I’m not just chasing dreams… I’m living them—while helping others wake theirs up too. It’s the healing in a performance, the power in a post, The impact that echoes beyond likes or applause. I make purpose look powerful. I make faith look fashionable. And I make every move count—because I’m on a mission. This isn’t a job. It’s a soul contract. And I’m just getting started.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If I had to break it down—the three forces that carried me, shook me, and ultimately crowned me—It would be: Resilience, Self-Awareness, and Divine Alignment. 1. Resilience — My Inner Warrior Spirit this wasn’t something I read in a book… I lived it. From battling addiction to facing betrayal, to nights with no roof but still full of faith— Resilience was the fire in my bones when everything else fell silent. It’s not about being strong all the time… it’s about refusing to stay down when life knocks you out. Advice? Stop looking for comfort—start building character. Get used to uncomfortable growth.
Make peace with the process. Journal your storms. Talk to your ancestors. And remember: pain is a portal, not a punishment. 2. Self-Awareness — The Mirror and the Map Once I stopped pointing outward and started asking “What am I here to learn?”, The whole game changed. Knowing myself—my wounds, my gifts, my triggers, my truth— Became the foundation of every move I made. Advice? Sit with yourself. Meditate. Shadow work isn’t cute, but it’s crucial. Get honest, even when it hurts. The deeper you go inside, the clearer your outside path becomes. Your purpose can’t find you if you’re still wearing masks. 3. Divine Alignment — My Sacred GPS I used to chase opportunities. Now I attract them. Why? Because I finally aligned my purpose with The Most High’s plan. I no longer move on emotion—I move on instruction. I trust divine timing. I consult the Source before man. And I let my spirit lead where logic would limit.
Advice?Get still enough to hear God’s voice. Pray like it’s breath. Don’t rush—real power moves in silence. And if it doesn’t feel like peace, it’s probably not your path. To anyone early in your journey: It’s okay to feel lost—just don’t stay there. Every detour is still part of the divine map. Focus on these three: Resilience to endure, Self-Awareness to navigate, and Alignment to elevate. You don’t need to have it all figured out—you just need to be willing to evolve.
And remember what my grandmother said: “You are somebody.” Now go live like it.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
“My Number One Obstacle? Turning Vision Into Venture.” If I had to name my Goliath—the giant standing between me and the kingdom I’m building— It’s funding. Not the lack of passion. Not the absence of ideas. But the capital to crown the vision—to take Innovative Q LLC from blueprint to full-blown breakthrough. See, the vision is loud… but the bank account sometimes whispers. And as a Black woman with a purpose-led mission, I’ve found the doors don’t always open with a knock—you gotta kick them open with intention. But I don’t sit still in struggle. I strategize in silence and move with divine hustle.
Here’s how I’m flipping the script: I’m pitching with purpose—every opportunity, every grant, every platform is a seed I’m planting. I’m building social proof—growing my brand, aligning with impact, turning every obstacle into a marketing moment. I’m manifesting in motion—not just wishing, but working. Speaking life into Innovative Q LLC daily, praying boldly, and aligning myself with mentors, resources, and elevation energy. I’m not waiting to be chosen—I’m positioning myself to be unignorable.
Because I know this: when God gives the vision, the provision is already written. So, yes—the funding is the mountain. But I’ve got faith, strategy, and fire in my soul… And mountains were made to move.
