Meet Araceli Soriano

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Araceli Soriano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Araceli, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

I had to go back to basics and rely on nature. Spending more time with Mother Earth and it’s beautiful creatures makes you realize what life is truly about; being present, letting go of the past, and not worry about the future. Humans have been conditioned to always be on the go and we forget to stop and smell the roses. With time, the repercussions are felt mentally, physically, and emotionally. Just as easily as bad habits are formed, we can teach ourselves to form new habits and make mindfulness be part of our daily lives.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a business management and administration professional. It’s exciting to wear many hats in the corporate world. However, my true calling is in creating art and guiding others. I have a photography repertoire that I will taking to the next level as well as bringing life to my photo studio. I’m also working on expanding the personal development coaching and sharing my knowledge with the World, specifically with the Spanish speaking individuals. There aren’t enough mental health resources available to the Hispanic community and I’m excited to be bringing this to them. It’s all still in the preliminary phase, so more to come on this via my socials.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Patience, love, and faith have been key in my journey. Everything takes time in life and what is meant for you will come in due time. Having supportive, loving, and trustworthy people goes along way to help give you the boost you need on a cloudy day. I know that God has a plan for me and I have faith in life that everything will work out. My advice to anyone starting out or starting over is to NEVER give up. Keep going no matter how big or small the strides are. All that matters is that you’re moving forward at whatever pace works for you. Nobody is keeping track, nor should you compare yourself to others’ journeys. We’re all fighting a battle and have our own stories to tell.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The book that has saved my sanity to move forward in life is The Way Out by Alan Gordon. Learning the neuroscience behind the mind-body treatment in relieving chronic pain and that you CAN “teach an old dog new tricks” has been a life saver for me throughout my journey. The brain is always listening to good and bad criticism; however it is the negative self talk along with the type of daily thoughts that take a toll on our body. We’re constantly surrounded by bad news and pessimistic people, which infiltrate like a virus in our brains and thus creates us to be harsh on ourselves. We need to treat ourselves with love and kindness for the circuits in our brain to be positive and rid of chronic pain.
