We were lucky to catch up with Aracelys Roman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aracelys, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in the transformative journey that life has taken me on. As May Sarton beautifully expressed, “Help us to be the always hopeful gardeners of the spirit who know that without darkness nothing comes to birth. As without light nothing flowers.” Amidst the challenges and shadows, I’ve faced, I have intentionally nurtured my soul and dreams.
Life unveiled loss, pain, and the depths of depression, however after healing, I refused to let it define me. Instead, I transmuted every hardship into an opportunity for growth and resilience. In the face of heart-wrenching loss and trauma, I navigated grief, finding solace in the wisdom of inspiring therapists, mentors, and coaches. Their radiant souls, aligned with my calling, motivated my journey back to self-discovery and reconnection with life’s profound fragility.
My optimistic perspective results from continuous inner work and a dedicated commitment to my happiness. I’ve deliberately reshaped my mindset and habits, aligning them with research-backed practices that promote joy and growth. My smile, often mistaken for having it all figured out, is the result of intentional inner work.
My journey, a mosaic of breakdowns turned into breakthroughs, stands as a testament to my conviction that happiness emerges from unwavering personal daily effort. I discovered my life’s purpose in guiding others to nurture their souls and pursue their dreams while teaching them to consciously face discomfort. Despite the inevitability of pain, I seek to inspire growth, healing, and the expansive flourishing of the heart. This endeavor propels me to instill in others the same resilience and optimism that carried me along my transformative path.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As an optimism and resilience coach, I am dedicated to guiding women through life transitions and inspiring them to translate their intentions into tangible actions. Also, I am pursuing a master’s degree in counseling psychology. The prospect of synergizing my coaching practice with my academic pursuits fills me with enthusiasm. The intersection of hands-on coaching experience and theoretical insights from my academic studies promises a richer and more nuanced approach to encouraging others on their paths to resilience and personal growth. This underscores my dedication to fostering positive transformations in the lives of those I serve.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, these elements have been particularly impactful:
1. Resilience – Developing resilience involves cultivating a positive mindset, understanding that setbacks are part of the journey, and embracing them as opportunities for learning and growth.
2. Mindset Shift – This involves aligning with productive thoughts, fostering gratitude, exploring mindfulness techniques, reading uplifting books, and surrounding myself with positive influences.
3. Continuous Learning – Remaining curious, seeking knowledge from diverse sources, and being open to learning from every experience.
To those early in their journey, my advice is to see challenges as stepping stones rather than obstacles. They hold valuable lessons and opportunities for personal development. Also, to actively work on developing a growth mindset and to acknowledge the power of thoughts in shaping our reality. Staying committed to lifelong learning, whether through formal education, mentorship, or self-directed study broadens our perspectives and equips us with valuable tools. Lastly, always remember the power of taking aligned action.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
For me, the book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay is a transformative work that encapsulates the essence of self-healing and inner power. Key pieces of wisdom that have resonated profoundly with me include Louise Hay’s emphasis on the power of affirmations to reshape our thoughts and beliefs, her insight into the mind-body connection and how it influences our well-being and the notion that we can take control of our lives by changing our perceptions and responses to challenges. This book has been a guiding light, offering practical tools and a holistic perspective on personal growth and healing.
