Meet Aramis Andreatas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aramis Andreatas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Aramis, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Work ethic is an interesting topic, I believe most of us have it. However, one’s passion is what makes our work ethics differ.

I’ve been “working” ever since I was a kid. Growing up, it was my responsibility to clean the house, do the dishes, fold the laundry and make sure the house was tidy before my mom got home. I was one of four kids, and yes my siblings helped me clean, but I always felt the load on me. If it wasn’t done, I would get in trouble and didn’t always understand why. Looking back, I realize it’s because I was the only one in a competitive sport. My family had to work hard to pay for my gymnastics lifestyle which may be the reason I had to do most of the work at home, to show them I was grateful.

On the flip side, my hard work carried into gymnastics from the ages 2-14, I was in the gym most days throughout the week. I made it all the way to level 9, with bars and floor being my favorite events. If I hadn’t pushed myself, I would not have made it to the higher levels. I had a reason to push myself, and although I would come home in tears some nights, I loved the sport and continued to show up. I knew that pain was temporary and could teach me to push past what I thought was my limits, both mentally and physically. My passion to grow in the sport fueled my work ethic during practices.

The joy I feel after accomplishing a goal that most people don’t think is possible, is the most amazing feeling in the world. Hence why I still, to do this day, do flips and tricks. I love having something to work for, I love having to work hard to achieve it, and I love the satisfaction I feel after accomplishing what I set out to do.

So I guess my work ethic came from my parents who signed me up for gymnastics at a young age. I learned that I needed to work hard to master something, and that included the home cleaning too.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
It’s crazy to say what I do, because I never thought I’d be doing this after quitting gymnastics at the age of 14….but I’m an in person & online coach who is biomechanics certified and specializes in tumbling & calisthenics skills.

I coach one-on-one sessions for goal driven athletes who are eager to learn skills so they can make it on to certain teams or make it to the next level. My clientele is competition cheer girls, gymnasts and some dancers who come to me specifically for skills, not the sports themselves.

I currently coach these tumbling sessions at Flipt Gymnastics on the weekends only, and during the week, I bring these clients to Docs Gym so they can train more sports performance/functional fitness drills, helping them build a strong foundation, while improving their coordination and lowering their risk of injury.

I also coach calisthenics classes at Docs Gym. Calisthenics is like street gymnastics on the bars, and it’s what I’ve been training athletic wise for about 7 years now! It’s my favorite sport, maybe because it’s like gymnastics but less stressful because I don’t have to point my toes…and you can see what I do on all my social media platforms, TikTok, Instagram & YouTube @ramiswanders

Other than my personal training, I also do group workshops and camps! Typically during spring and summer breaks and I’m already planning one for the week of April 14th! If you’re interested in signing up, please email me at [email protected] .

To help my clients, I’ve created many online tutorials for them to study skills, practice drills, and even do follow along stretches/workouts from the comfort of their own home. You can find these on my YouTube channel @ramiswanders.

Be sure to subscribe and feel free to comment any other tutorials you may need!

And stay tuned for more workshop announcements this year!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to choose three things that were the most impactful on my journey I’d say:

1. Experience: the best way to coach something is to experience it for yourself. For me it was actually doing gymnastics and calisthenics that has helped me coach it with my own personal twist on things. Had I not trained myself, it’s hard to imagine myself being here training others.

2. Patience: whether I’m training for a skill or trying to help a client reach a skill, patience is a huge part of this process. It’s easy to set a goal and get flustered when you don’t reach it right away. But NEWS FLASH, we don’t always get what we want. If you want it bad enough, you’ll keep showing up, staying consistent, and working extra both in and out of practice. The journey truly is everything because once you get that skill, I promise you’ll want another one, leaving you feeling like a beginner again. Just be patient with yourself, keep showing up, give it your all and remember that CONSISTENCY ALWAYS WINS.

3. Knowledge: for my first couple years of coaching I was only certified in experience. Yes, I said it, experience. I knew how to coach skills because I was experienced in skills. However, in the last year I decided to invest in myself so I could take my coaching career even farther. I wanted to do better, help more, and learn more. What better way than to get a legit certification, 3 actually. I am now certified in 3 levels of biomechanics:

Level 1: The 7 Major Motor Patters (Squat, Lunge, Hinge, Push, Pull, Twist & Gait) which has allowed me to teach my clients how to properly execute these movements, ensuring proper muscle activation & lowering their risk of injury.

Level 2: Assessment & Program Design which was an absolute mind blowing course. I now know how to complete a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment that takes over 50 orthopedic measurements across the body, allowing me to create customized, scientific training programs for my clients based off of their bodies ranges of motion.

Level 3: Athlete Development & Sports Performance which has taught me how to improve athletes speed/agility, balance, coordination and plyometric abilities.

My best advice for anyone looking to improve their craft is to keep going! Keep showing up for yourself, practicing on your own time, being patient with yourself and last but not least, INVEST IN YOURSELF! I was confident in my craft before but after getting these 3 certifications , my confidence skyrocketed! Learning is a beautiful thing and I promise you won’t ever regret spending your money when it comes to learning something you’re passionate about. It will only help you become better! And that’s why it’s called an investment.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I have two answers to this question:

1. Landon Fischer: he’s the owner of Flipt Gymnastics and a friend I used to train calisthenics with. I was coaching at a gym that I knew was going to close down so I reached out to Landon, asked if he’s wanting anyone to rent from him and he welcomed me with open arms. Had he not, I would not be where I am today. Because he had coaching for a few years here in town, he built up a great name for himself and his business and even had a waitlist of clients. When I first started at Flipt, I brought my few clients over with me and he handed me his waitlist clients. Some of which I consider family now, I’m grateful for Landon because I may not have ever met them if it weren’t for him welcoming me to his gym.

2. DBC Fitness: this is the gym where I got my three certifications from last year. The founder, David Alexander, along with all the other coaches there, have inspired me to step out of my comfort zone. They coach professional athletes including LeBron James, Connor McGregor, and more many more NBA, NFL & PGA players. Drake has even been there…They’ve helped people recover from injuries while focusing on proper biomechanics during every movement. My confidence and drive to continue doing what I do, has greatly been influenced from my days at DBC. Seeing all of the coaches there thrive, while helping others, and making a crazy living doing what they love….inspired me beyond belief.
