Meet Ari Bliss

We were lucky to catch up with Ari Bliss recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ari, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?

In the world of ballet, you tell a story without words. All you have is the stage, beautiful music, difficult choreography, sparkling tutus, and a partner by your side supporting your every twirling move to enchant the enamored audience that comes to see the magic of dance. In this sacred space, I learned the impact of stage presence, raw confidence, and intentional stares. Pauses, gestures, body language, it is all non-verbal yet it is effective in relaying a complete story from beginning to end. The facial features and heightened emotions pour out of the body as a way to set the stage (pun intended) for storytelling. This can translate effectively off the dance floor. You don’t have to use big words to inflate your importance. The secret to communicate effectively is to connect with the person or people in the room with authority, authenticity, and authorization. You are the author of your story every day. Write the narrative as you see fit!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a professional ballerina that grew up dancing with the School of American Ballet, performing with the New York City Ballet, now shifting towards expanding my expertise teaching the younger generation the art of mindfulness, dance, and leadership in my daily ballet classes whether that be virtual or in person or in performance settings! I also host a podcast, the Growth, Grace, Gratitude Podcast, which centers on having meaningful discussing with experts in their fields on all things mental health support. I am excited to publish my poembooks called the ‘Innerchild 10 day Resetting Journey’ to assist those in healing and recovery. The innerchild holds the story of beliefs. We are here to remember them and reframe them if needed to support our own growth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 skills that were most impactful in my journey were prioritizing connection, joy, and productivity. Working with dance and the body, it is a difficult and perfectionist-based reality, so much so that you essentially must go deeper into the why. That is my ultimate advice for those just starting. Whatever you do, know it will take work, intention, dedication. With that, never forget to add doses of joy, connection, and productivity to keep the journey running smoothly.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

We feel overwhelmed daily, weekly, seasonally. We are spiritual beings that require spiritual attention which includes a walk to the ocean, a lunch by the lake, a conversation with a friendly squirrel. Dream, start a podcast, and menace a new hobby like ballroom or music, dive into the dimension that yearns to be included in your lifestyle. All it takes from you is a commitment to self-love, pure self-respect, and self-forgiveness of who you were before.
