We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Arie Little a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Arie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from both of my parents I believe. My dad is a hard worker, likes to provide and wants to have his own and get it for himself. My mom is also very hard working and when she is passionate or focused on something that’s what she’s going to succeed in.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a teen music artist born and raised in Memphis, TN. The most exciting part about doing music is meeting new people and performing. The stage is where I belong, it’s like once the lights come on I can’t see anything else but going out there and putting on a good show for the people. I love meeting new people and lifting up one another. At the end of the day we all just want to have a good, fun, safe time. Performing is just amazing to me. I’ve leaned that I enjoy all areas of performing, whether it’s acting or music I enjoy it all. The music I make is kid friendly, upbeat, uplifting and positive. I tend to stay in that lane because I get to be my genuine self, I get to give people an authentic Arie at all times.
I’m in the process of my next EP. Still working on a few more songs and a relatable title. This time I want my music to show my growth as an artist. I want to include some of the lessons I’ve learned and how I’ve dealt with it. That means I’m writing more and letting the pen tell my story.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think it’s been very impactful for me to get out there and network. That is something my team continue to stress to me as I’m very shy personally. I’m the person that doesn’t like all the attention. I’ve also learned how to tell my story and to just write the music. Most importantly it’s been a huge impact on myself learning to trust the process and let go, to just go for it. This is probably the number one thing I would tell someone, just go for what you want. The world is big enough for all of us and we have so much to give. No matter what trust the process and don’t compare your journey to no one else’s, we all have our own story to tell. Everyday is a new day to make your dreams come true.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
There’s two people in my life that has helped me which is my manager and my producer. My producer is very consistent with me. He does not allow me to half do anything. Every phone call, text, email, etc ends with a due date and he says make sure you are putting pen to paper. It can be tough sometimes but I know it’s all in love and for my best self. When it comes to my manager, whew there is never a dull moment. She makes sure I am booked and busy. People think being an artist is easy and you just perform. Let me tell you that is not the case especially being an independent artist. You are responsible for doing everything for yourself a full operating record label would do for an artist and my manager make it happen. She keep the business flowing.
