We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Arie Walters a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Arie, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
As someone who is known for being a positive person, I would say my optimism subconsciously comes from faith. I have faith that things will get better, and I know for a fact that things could be worse. I know that everything I go through is not happening to me, it is happening for me. In every situation, there is a lesson and opportunity for me to grow into the person I dream of becoming. No situation nor circumstance is inevitably bad or good. It’s all about your perspective, and I choose to have a good one. My best friend and I always say that gratitude is the best attitude. When you take a step back and remind yourself of all the things to be grateful for, it immediately shifts your energy, and I feel so much lighter. If you are in a hole and can’t think of anything, be thankful that you’re breathing, be thankful you woke up with a chance to make a difference in your life, or be thankful for the gift of life itself. My final tip that helps me get through the hard times is remembering all the times I felt like I would never make it, that things would never get better. But you know what, they did. They always do. We are so much bigger than our challenges and any problem we face. We have the power to create our reality, we just have to remember that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am someone who can be referred to as a jack of all trades. I have so many interests, and as a creative, I give myself the freedom to follow my passions and interests. At this moment, I am currently focused on developing my personal brand as a model and motivator. I actually have a fashion show coming up, which I’m very excited about, as it will be my first in a while. To be honest with you, I have taken a break to settle into being back at school but it’s time to get back to work. Fashion is something that has been a big part of my life for a few years now, and it has played a tremendous role in getting me to where I am today. I wouldn’t have found the confidence I have now if I didn’t fall in love with the beauty and expression that clothes provide. During the summer, I acknowledge the fulfillment I get from pouring into others and helping people to improve their mindsets. There’s something so beautiful in being able to talk to someone and completely change the way they view their situation. Guiding people towards inner peace is my mission, and everything I do stems from that mission. I am getting ready to start releasing content pertaining to optimism and finding peace soon, so be on the lookout for that!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ll actually give you one of each. The most important quality is kindness, the skill is perseverance, and the area of knowledge is spirituality, more specifically, mindfulness. These 3 things are what have gotten me this far in my journey and are what I know will be the driving force behind how far I go. Kindness is so important this day in age because genuine kindness is so hard to come by. People are so used to everything being transactional in life that when someone is genuinely kind to them, with no expectations in return, it sticks with them. Being known for my kindness is one of my greatest honors, and I believe it helps me to attract so many positive people and opportunities. Perseverance in itself will get you far. You only lose if you quit and you are a winner. And you’ve come too far to quit now. And when it comes to being mindful, it has so many benefits, and it helps you stay grounded in a world full of chaos. Remember, you are on your own path, you’re life is not going to move at the rate of anyone else’s because you’re not anyone else.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Give me the space to be myself and accept me for whatever that may look like. Throughout my childhood, I went through so many phases, interest, even nicknames while I was trying to discover who I was and who I wanted to be. My mom has always been my biggest supporter, and I don’t think she knows how her support really meant to me. Whenever I changed my name, she would immediately go with it and adapt. I remember one day, while I was at work, I had forgotten something at home. Before my mom came to drop it off, she asked me which name I preferred to be written on it. It may seem like a small thing for some, but It has stuck with me since. The way my mom openly let me express myself and never made me feel shame in discovering who I am paved the way for me to be comfortable rebranding myself at any time. I’m happy to start things over or try something new if that means being my most authentic self because I know that I am loved and accepted regardless. If by nobody else, by my parents.
