Meet Ariel Orama Lopez (AG ORLOZ)

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariel Orama Lopez (AG ORLOZ). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ariel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

The search for purpose is something that is built daily. Typically, it is very close to our personal gifts and what we are most passionate about. The seventh art, music, writing and the search for a meaningful story that combines all these elements is part of my life plan and my purpose on Planet Earth.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a Puerto Rican multi-awarded filmmaker and actor that qualified for the Oscars 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. I was the first Puerto Rican selected in World of Films during Cannes 2024, Animaze: Animation in Cannes 2023, and the American Pavilion during Cannes 2022. Two of my multi-awarded short films (AËRC-02 & Princëney) were screened at the Grauman Theater, Hollywood, L.A. I was one of the finalist of Taller TELEMUNDO: actores, in Miami, directed by the well-known actress nominated for an Oscar in the movie Babel (2006), the distinguished Mexican actress & professor Adriana Barraza. As a director, producer, actor, composer, singer, and writer, I have worked in commercials, theatre, short films, indie films, documentary, series, television, media writing, and voice-overs, summing more than 200 projects in arts (2001-2023). One of my songs (Seré/I’ll be) won in Miami and his song (Alto Vuelas/ Flying Higher) was selected as the official Puerto Rican song for the World March from the Peace, celebrated in Argentina and New Zealand. Also, I was selected as the Creative Coach for the television program Idol Kids Puerto Rico (from the recognized English franchise Idol ©). In terms of accolades, I have received more than 200 laurels and 100 international prizes in role of producer, director, composer, singer, and actor: ONE (about the thousands of lives lost because of the Hurricane Maria) was presented in all the continents of the World. It includes the tenor voice of Antonio Barasorda (RIP). I have received different awards in performing arts, including Best Direction, Best Leading Actor, Best Concept, Best Short Film, Best Composition, and Best Script.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Discipline, creativity and passion are the three most important ingredients to win any battle in the fine arts. Each person must discover what their personal gifts are and elevate them exponentially. This is my best advice: all of this happens in small steps, in segments of life, in fragments of experiences with other human beings.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

I am always in search of the identity that will define and set new standards in my new projects. The winning formula does not come from foreign grants, government endorsements aimed at positioning a film representative of a country in festivals, or million-dollar funds. It comes from being able to orchestrate something new that transcends. This search is an invaluable treasure that comes from within. It is achieved with a lot of dedication and passion, long hours of analysis and work, discipline, and from the unparalleled creative power. Through collaborations among creatives open to different ideas and in tune. From a friendly look at our environment and our individual and collective evolution. Based from stories with substance, endowed with an air close to our reality yet universal, I can assure you that each project has its own identity and particular shades, and has been conceived and guarded with care. Beyond the accolades or finding “a winning formula,” the greatest reward of this recurrent challenge has been able to “swim” or flow into the art-science dichotomy, create an audiovisual legacy that portrays relevant historical moments, and meet wonderful people from different parts of the world through my travels or through the journey of my projects.
