We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Armando And Pearl. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Armando and Pearl below.
Armando and Pearl, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
For us resilience comes from our faith in Jesus Christ and knowing that no matter what happens He’s always in control. Life has thrown us a lot of challenges whether it was transitioning from the military, building our business from the ground up or navigating personal struggles but through it all we’ve learned that leaning on God gives us strength we wouldn’t have on our own.
There have been moments where we felt like giving up when things weren’t going the way we planned and we had no idea what the next step looked like. But each time we made the choice to trust that God was leading us somewhere greater. Resilience to us isn’t just about pushing through difficulties it’s about having faith that even the setbacks are part of the bigger picture.
We’ve realized that we don’t have to carry the weight of everything alone. The more we’ve surrendered control and put our trust in Him, the stronger we’ve become not because we have it all figured out but because we know we’re not walking through life alone.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Armando Nava, a Real Estate Broker & Home Builder and together with my wife Pearl, we are the founders of Nava Realty Group, Nava Homes, and authors of Built for This. But before any of that I was just a guy trying to figure out life after the military without faith, without direction, and honestly, without much hope.
When I left the Marine Corps I felt completely lost. The military gave me purpose, structure, and a clear mission. But once I transitioned into civilian life I had none of that. I tried to rely on myself thinking I could handle it on my own but the truth is I was struggling. I didn’t believe in God at the time. I thought faith was just something people turned to when they were weak and I didn’t want to admit that I needed help.
But Pearl never gave up on me, She prayed for me, encouraged me, and kept speaking life into me even when I rejected it. I saw how strong her faith was how she found peace even when things weren’t going our way and honestly I couldn’t understand it. Why did she have so much hope when I felt nothing but frustration?
I fought it for a long time but God was working in ways I didn’t even realize. The more I resisted the more He surrounded me with people, moments, and experiences that kept pointing me back to Him. It wasn’t an overnight change It took years of questioning, struggling and honestly, breaking down before I finally surrendered And when I did everything changed.
That’s when Nava Realty Group was born We didn’t just want to sell homes we wanted to share what God had done in our lives through real estate. We saw how He had taken us from a place of uncertainty and struggle and opened doors we never thought possible. Real estate became more than a career it became our way of blessing others, helping families find stability, and showing that when you trust in God He will guide your steps.
As we grew in real estate we expanded into Nava Homes where we now build luxury residences that reflect elegance, quality, and thoughtful design. Every home we build represents the same journey we went through starting from nothing, trusting the process and creating something lasting.
Beyond business we wanted to share our full story the struggles, the faith, and the lessons that shaped us. That’s why we wrote Built for This a book about how God turns struggles into purpose, how faith carries you through adversity and how even the hardest seasons are preparing you for something greater.
And now we’re stepping into a new chapter—parenthood. Pearl and I are expecting our first child and it’s given us an even greater sense of purpose. Everything we do building homes, sharing our testimony, and living out our faith is about creating something bigger than ourselves and leaving a legacy that honors God.
Looking back I realize now that Nava Realty Group wasn’t just a business idea it was part of God’s plan all along. He took our struggles, our uncertainties and even my resistance and turned it into something meaningful. We’re proof that when you surrender, when you trust His plan He will take you further than you ever imagined.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1 – Get Back Up!
Life and business are full of setbacks. Deals fall through, mistakes happen, and some days feel like you’re moving backward instead of forward. The key to success is not avoiding failure it’s learning how to recover quickly.
Don’t take failures personally, analyze what went wrong, adjust, and try again.
Develop a habit of self-reflection. Ask, “What could I have done differently?” instead of dwelling on what didn’t work.
Keep a long-term perspective, you’re looking for progress not perfection.
2- Be Open to Change, But Stay True to Yourself!
Things rarely go exactly as planned especially in real estate, business, and life. Markets shift, clients change their minds, and unexpected challenges arise. The people who succeed aren’t the ones who have a perfect plan they’re the ones who stay flexible, trust God, and adjust without losing who they are in the process.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is chasing someone else’s version of success instead of walking in their own God-given purpose. There are too many copies of copies people imitating trends, trying to fit into a mold, or following someone else’s formula thinking it will guarantee them success. But the truth is God didn’t create you to be a duplicate He created you to be one of a kind. The world doesn’t need another version of someone else. It needs the best version of YOU.
Don’t chase validation from people. If your focus is on what’s “popular” or “successful” in the world’s eyes you’ll lose sight of the bigger purpose God has for you. The approval of man is temporary but walking in alignment with God’s plan is eternal.
Be willing to grow but don’t conform. There’s a difference between adapting to new opportunities and abandoning who God called you to be. Not every open door is meant for you pray before you walk through it.
Let God lead your path not culture. The world is always changing but God’s plan for you remains steady. Stay rooted in Him and you won’t feel the pressure to imitate someone else’s journey.
Success isn’t about blending in it’s about standing out. People are drawn to authenticity. If you try to be someone you’re not you’ll attract the wrong opportunities and miss the ones meant for you. The right doors will open when you stay true to who God created you to be.
3- Relationship-Building,Success Comes from Serving Others!
No matter what industry you’re in relationships will open more doors than any degree or skill set. People want to do business with those they know, like, and trust. But beyond business relationships matter because God calls us to serve others not just when it benefits us but because it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes the seeds you plant in people’s lives won’t show immediate result but that doesn’t mean they don’t matter. God sees what we do in private and every act of kindness, integrity, and generosity counts.
Always provide value first. Whether in business or friendships don’t just focus on what you can gain, help others succeed too.
Master communication. Learn how to listen actively, ask the right questions, and genuinely engage with people.
Even when you don’t see immediate results. Some of the biggest opportunities in our lives have come from relationships we built years ago. You never know who God is aligning in your path for a future blessing.
Work with integrity, even when no one is watching. Doing the right thing might not always get recognition but God rewards what’s done in faith and obedience.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I say Go All In on Your Strengths
I believe that focusing on your strengths is the key to real success. Too many people try to master everything jumping from one thing to another but in doing so they never truly excel at anything. The most successful people aren’t the ones who try to be good at everything they’re the ones who double down on what they do best and surround themselves with people who complement their weaknesses.
This is exactly how my wife Pearl and I work together so well. We are completely different in how we think, what we’re good at, and how we approach challenges. I have my strengths and she has hers and instead of trying to become the same or “well-rounded,” we lean into our unique abilities and trust each other to fill in the gaps.
I’m more of a big-picture, strategic thinker always looking at how we can scale, grow, and push forward.
Pearl is incredible at details, organization, and relationships, making sure that every step we take is done with excellence.
Where I move fast, she brings clarity. Where she focuses on fine-tuning, I help keep momentum.
We don’t waste time trying to become “well-rounded” in areas that don’t align with how God wired us. Instead we sharpen our individual strengths and trust each other to handle what we each do best.
Master One Thing First
A lot of people struggle in business or life because they try to master too many things at once. They jump from idea to idea, skill to skill, thinking they need to be “good at everything.” But success doesn’t come from being average at many things it comes from being great at one thing and leveraging it to build everything else.
Find your strength, refine it, and become so good at it that people can’t ignore you. If you build your foundation on what you do best you’ll naturally attract the right people to fill in where you’re not as strong. That’s how true success happens not by trying to do everything yourself but by focusing on what you do best and building a team around you.
God designed each of us with different gifts for a reason. If we were all meant to be “well-rounded,” we wouldn’t need each other. Instead of trying to be everything lean into your God-given strengths and surround yourself with people whose strengths complement yours. That’s how you build something that lasts.
