We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Armin Basha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Armin, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My dedication to work is constantly evolving and I can safely say that in the last year or so my work ethic has skyrocketed compared to the last five years as I am surrounded non-stop with tasks I have to complete not only in the music sphere but also in other day to day tasks and in self-care of course. As for my core work ethic, I believe I developed it at an early age when I started to go to school and did my best to get great grades because that was the ultimate accomplishment to make your parents proud.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well, right now we are at the break with the band Abergaz as we’ve just finished our two-show long big tour across the country to promote our newest album ‘Dihotomija Zbilje’. We’ve also recorded a new single ‘Prebrzo’ for the purpose of getting on our local song contest TV show ‘Dora’ where the winner of the contest goes to Eurovision to represent their country. We didn’t pass and now the single is an ode to that event but also we’re very lucky to pass the chance to the band ‘Vatra’ so they can rescue the rock scene in Croatia by winning the Eurovision Song contest. I also work with Affordable Care Entertainment on a video game that will be out sometime next year. My job is to compose, produce, and mix the soundtrack for the whole game. So far I am enjoying the process of making the soundtrack and I can say that we have a great team working on this project.
Besides the band and the soundtrack production, I learn new stuff in my free time. I like to educate myself on my own. I also have started to take care of my body and learn what’s good for me and what isn’t, I try my best to have proper nutrition. I just love to feel as best as I can because only then I can put out my best work.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first and most important quality is self-discipline, without it, it’s impossible to create anything decent. So that would be the first step, to take orders from yourself even if you think some of them are corny in nature. So folks, drink your water, wake up early, go at the same time to bed, eat your breakfast, and engage in some physical activity. After you have mastered yourself, master your craft. Squeeze it into your tight schedule to make it even tighter. Next up is to be curious all day, every day. Learn new skills and stuff because your mind is your biggest asset in life and it likes to be expanded. You never know when you will need certain knowledge and if you are working on some project alone, without a palette of skills you are doomed.
Lastly, to level up in productivity you’ll need good old self-care. Do anything good for you in a healthy way so you can bloom your confidence. So, drink your water!
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
I am facing challenges every day if I have something to do. If not, then the biggest challenge is to decide which album to put on that day. So the number one challenge when I have work to do is to make a ‘perfect’ schedule for my flow so I can get several things done while I’m awake without much friction in between tasks. My digital calendar and my ‘to-do list’ on my iPhone are my best friends in that kind of situation but I always struggle to get things going the way I planned the day before. Well, the other thing I’m struggling would is finding music that suits the given situation while completing my work.
