Meet Arshley Emile

We recently connected with Arshley Emile and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Arshley , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. I remember when I was younger my mother was a manager at McDonald’s. She came home the next day. As you can imagine I was terrified. When she came home she immediately made us breakfast and told me to get ready for school. I asked what happened and she told me that she and her employees were robbed and thrown into the freezer. With tears running down my face I asked her why would she want to go back to work after what happened. She looked at me and said who else is going to pay for the roof over our heads and the food on our table. I learned very quickly there’s no matter what do your job.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Dr. Arshley Emile and I’m an aspiring filmmaker. I’ve been in the business for about 8 years. My wife and I own a production company (Timberhouse Films.) We mostly produce documentaries, brand commercials and shorts. We recently wrapped our documentary “Stitch” which we will screen late January. We also have submitted “Stitch” to several film festivals. Next year we plan to produce 3 documentary shorts, 1 documentary feature as well as a couple narratives. I would describe our films as a spiritual experience in which the audience leaves a little better than they came.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe with anything you do you have to do/possess 3 things. The first one is to trust the process no matter what. Secondly, you must have unwavering faith in your abilities. A lot times when we start something we begin to question our skill/talent because of doubt or the opinion of others. Lastly, remember God doesn’t make mistakes. He brought you this far and wouldn’t let you fail if He knew you couldn’t handle it.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My wife along with my family and friends have been the most helpful in helping me overcome some of my challenges. They reminded me that I wasn’t alone. I think a lot times we as creatives feel like we can handle the business and creative side of our journey effectively when in reality we can’t. For my fellow creatives I would encourage you hire an intern/assistant. Let me them focus on the business while you focus on the creativity.
