We were lucky to catch up with Artie Terra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Artie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
As a woman making Erotic- Dadaism art I often wonder where I fit into the art world, but I remind myself that I love what I do. I have the honor and privilege to make strange art. There are also a lot of self-love conversations in the mirror as well. As a society, we tell each other to have respect, understanding, and patience with each other but not ourselves. It takes time to have kindness for yourself, but I believe it’s worth the practice.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Artie I am the person behind Super Apple Pie Art, I am a local Los Angeles artist working in mixed media, My work is body-positive genitals and other lgbtqia themes. I like to call my work Erotic-Dadaism And my favorite works I have made so far are the teeny weenie and tiny clits because I get to explore all sorts of art mediums like painting, sculpting, and building. I have a studio opening on sept 23rd 2023 must be 18 yrs+ to come to this event and see the art in person and meet the artist. for more info about the event and other upcoming events please visit my website.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Once I learned that making mistakes was part of the journey I really came into my own power as an artist and person. If I have any advice for people out there it’s don’t be so hard on yourself, and make mistakes, not everyone’s journey is the same so it’s okay to make your own path.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Flowers for Algernon is an important book to me, it shows us how difficult it is to be kind to ourselves and how important it is to overcome that challenge. If I could pick one nugget of wisdom from that book it would be that we all see the world through a different lens and if we practice some kindness with ourselves imagine what kind of joy we could bring to the world.
