Meet Artist Carole J Mccoy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Artist Carole J Mccoy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Artist Carole J , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

My creativity enlivens me. It is like breathing for me, it sustains my life.
In every observation, through sight and sound, I find inspiration. I am curious as to how expression became and how it may grow. When something captures my attention, I record it, writing, sketching it, or, photograph or video it.
I would say that nature by far is my greatest stimulation for my creation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a multidisciplinary visual artist. I create art in different mediums: traditional physical painting, digital art/generative art from physical objects, writer, performance art as actor (SAGAFTRA member).
Art is my passion, and I knew since a I was a child it would be my first language.
In college while studying history and art, I was discovered as a fashion model, in which I was signed by the prestigious Elite Model Management. I realized in Paris while going on go-sees, I was missing them, getting lost in museums.
My love for the arts and human rights have been part of my journey as well.
I advocate daily for the arts on the platform @ArTallks on X, supports artists and causes.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The advice I would share with artist of all genres, would be:
Trust your calling, as an artist.
Declare yourself as an artist, and if someone ask you if you are, you can’t be wishy-washy in your response. Either you are or you’re not. If you are working a job while pursuing your dreams, take into consideration the skills you learn doing it, along with the pay to support your pursuit, and still say “I Am An Artist” Dam It!
Create everyday, without seeking perfection!!! If you nurture your body with food, you must nurture your gift!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I have several literary influences
that have impacted my discipline.
The first verse of Gensis 1:3 in the Bible

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” I have used for meditation and prayer, when needing a revelation of leading my creative nudgings.
